Role Purpose

The Medical Science Liaison Lead supports disease diagnosis, diagnostic methods, and strategic initiatives to facilitate early, accurate diagnosis across PTC's portfolio within the assigned country. The role represents PTC and its products to key opinion leaders, clinicians, academic institutions, and professional organizations, while developing innovative diagnostic initiatives to complement the PTC portfolio from clinical trial through commercialization.

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management

• Establish, manage, and maintain successful relations with relevant health authorities, including KOLs, HCPs, academic institutions, payors, and patient organizations.
• Build long-term relationships and establish rapport with clinicians in hospitals, clinics, and academic centers through highly scientific product and disease state discussions.
• Attend national and regional medical meetings and symposia as a representative of PTC and engage in discussions with attendees; attend scientific sessions and poster presentations, gather information, and summarize findings.
• Cultivate professional relationships from conference contacts as appropriate.
• Support or expand current therapeutic concepts and ensure safe and effective utilization of products.

Clinical Education & Program Development

• Deliver and may develop or design fair-balanced and objective clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals, payors, and patient organizations in response to unsolicited requests for information on company products.
• Identify and train speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs using regulatory-approved materials, slide sets, abstracts, posters, and other resources.
• Identify, organize, and carry out regional medical initiatives such as advisory boards as needed.
• Develop strategic and innovative diagnosis initiatives within the assigned country to complement the PTC portfolio.

Medical & Scientific Expertise

• Evaluate and address regional diagnosis gaps using clinical expertise in disease state, clinical presentation, and differential diagnosis of diseases in PTC's portfolio.
• Respond to unsolicited requests for information about PTC Therapeutics marketed products and treatment areas promptly and accurately.
• Address the specific needs of clients by serving as the clinical and medical expert on the company's products.
• Maintain thorough awareness of medical, clinical, regulatory, compliance, and quality issues and processes as they apply to PTC therapeutic areas.

Business Intelligence & Strategy

• Provide input to management regarding alternative therapies, business development opportunities and risks, and client feedback.
• Maintain competitor information relevant to company therapeutic areas, goals, objectives, project activities, and product team priorities.
• Stay current on therapeutic advances and competing therapies or products.
• Analyze and apply relevant intelligence findings and communicate insightful data and impact in efficient formats to appropriate internal stakeholders.
• Serve as a resource to company management regarding market dynamics, business development, and client feedback.

Grant & Research Support

• Facilitate the accurate and timely submission of applications for unrestricted educational grants or research initiatives and requests for support of studies, per company policy.

Compliance & Quality

• Adhere to and support the standards established by the company regarding medical, clinical, regulatory, compliance, and quality issues.
• Partner with the clinical science and diagnostics function in a matrix organization to support early disease recognition and diagnosis by healthcare providers.

Qualifications & Experience

• Advanced degree (Masters, MPH, PharmD, M.D., or Ph.D.) in a scientific discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible, relevant experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related environment.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as an MSL in rare diseases or equivalent.
• Experience supporting an orphan, rare disease, and/or specialized drug(s).
• Valid driver's license.

Additional Information

• Must be able to travel on a daily basis to and from customer accounts.
• Must be able to drive and/or fly long distances; distances will vary based upon the size of assigned territory.
