Medical Practitioner-Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Role Overview

Medical Practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC).

Role Purpose

Provide primary care and specialized pediatric intensive care to patients suffering from injuries and common illnesses, with responsibility for diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive patient management in the PICU setting.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Care

• Examine patients, take medical histories, address patients' concerns, and answer patients' questions.
• Diagnose and treat injuries, illnesses, and disorders.
• Explain medical procedures to patients.

Diagnostics & Interpretation

• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and explain the results to patients.

Treatment Planning & Prescription

• Recommend and design treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications or therapies.

Patient Counseling & Education

• Counsel patients on diet, hygiene, preventative healthcare, and other lifestyle changes.

Documentation & Communication

• Update patients' charts and information to reflect current findings and treatments.
• Consult with other physicians, refer patients to specialists when necessary, and work with other healthcare staff, such as nurses, assistants, and other physicians.

Compliance

• Comply with medical laws, including HIPAA.

Qualifications & Experience

• Medical degree and successful completion of a residency and internship.
• State license and certification to practice medicine.
• Knowledge and experience in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of illnesses.
