Role Overview

Marine Mechanic at Milaha.

Role Purpose

Overhaul diesel engines and perform all types of diesel mechanical jobs in a safe and professional manner as per the direct instruction of the mechanical foreman.

Key Responsibilities

Engine Overhaul & Repair

• Perform major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on marine diesel engines, including main engines and auxiliary engines, using technical manuals.
• Test, repair and overhaul marine engines, hydraulic systems, and bow and stern thruster units.
• Carry out complete overhauling of all types of engines, pumps, compressors, and valves.
• Carry out overhauling of turbochargers.
• Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul any type of diesel engines.

Equipment Maintenance & Assembly

• Operate hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment.
• Remove and refit propellers and tailshafts, and replace seals.
• Remove and refit hydraulic injection type couplings and propellers.
• Process, label, and secure parts of equipment.
• Ensure proper torque specification and keep work area clean prior to reassembly.
• Ensure correct parts are ordered through the foreman.

Procurement & Planning

• Write specifications for and recommend purchase of marine engine spares.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all works are carried out in a safe manner and in compliance with the division's Quality Assurance procedures and Quality Manuals.
• Follow agreed safe systems of work and follow all training and instructions.
• Report accidents, incidents, and near misses.
• Stop work if you think the work is unsafe.
• Ensure you have all necessary information to carry out assigned duties.

General Duties

• Work independently with instruction from the Mechanical Foreman or group leader.
• Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by Management, including all mechanical works.

Communication

Internal Communication

• Communicate with Foreman and co-workers to improve the quality of work and scope of work.
• Coordinate activities related to execution of responsibilities.

Qualifications & Experience

• High School or Secondary School diploma.
• ITI certificate or similar qualification in diesel engines, preferably marine.
• 6 years of professional experience as a technician working on marine diesel engines and gearboxes.

Skills & Competencies

• Basic computer knowledge (added advantage).
• English and/or Hindi language proficiency preferred.
