Marine Mechanic

Role Overview

Marine Mechanic at Milaha. The role performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on marine diesel engines and related equipment in a safe and professional manner as per the direct instruction of the mechanical foreman.

Role Purpose

To overhaul diesel engines and perform all types of diesel mechanical jobs in a safe and professional manner as per the direct instruction of mechanical foreman.

Key Responsibilities

Engine Overhaul and Repair

• Perform major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on marine diesel engines (main engines and auxiliary engines) using technical manuals.
• Test, repair and overhaul marine engines.
• Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul any type of diesel engines.
• Carry out complete overhauling of all types of engines, pumps, compressors, valves and related equipment.
• Carry out overhauling of turbochargers.

Hydraulic and Propulsion Systems

• Test, repair and overhaul hydraulic systems.
• Test, repair and overhaul bow and stern thruster units.
• Remove, refit and replace propeller and tailshaft seals.
• Remove and refit propellers.
• Remove and refit hydraulic injection type couplings.

Tools and Equipment Operation

• Operate hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment.
• Process, label and secure parts of equipment.
• Keep work area clean prior to reassemble.
• Ensure proper torque specification.
• Ensure correct parts ordered through foreman.

Quality and Compliance

• Ensure all works are carried out in a safe manner and in compliance with the divisions Quality Assurance procedures and Quality Manuals.
• Follow agreed safe systems of work.
• Follow training and instructions.
• Report accidents, incidents and near misses.
• Stop work if you think the work is unsafe.

Support and Documentation

• Write specifications for and recommend purchase of marine engine spares.
• Ensure you have all necessary information to carry out assigned duties.
• Work independently with instruction of Mechanical Foreman or group leader.
• Execute any other duties and responsibilities assigned by Management including all mechanical works.

Communication

• Communicate internally with foreman and co-workers to improve quality of work, scope of work, and coordinate activities related to execution of responsibilities.

Qualifications & Experience

• High School or Secondary School education required.
• ITI certificate or similar in diesel engines preferred, preferably marine.
• 6 years professional experience as a technician working on marine diesel engines and gearboxes.

Skills & Competencies

• Basic computer knowledge (added advantage).
• English or Hindi language skills preferred.
