Role Overview

Marine Electro Technical Lecturer at Sharjah Maritime Academy.

Role Purpose

Support the Head of Program in delivering high-quality teaching, training, and academic excellence in line with STCW III/6, STCW III/1 and STCW III/2 requirements. The role includes teaching marine electro-technical and engineering subjects, participating in assessments, delivering maritime training courses, preparing students for Certificate of Competency examinations, and contributing to research activities aligned with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Instruction

• Teach a range of subjects including Marine Propulsion Electrical Systems, High Voltage Systems, Marine Automation Systems, Marine Electronics and other related topics relating to STCW III/6, STCW III/1 and STCW III/2 requirements, as required by the Head.
• Deliver lectures and lead seminar groups as appropriate.
• Use appropriate, innovative and effective pedagogic approaches in the classroom.

Assessment & Feedback

• Participate in the examination and assessment process including setting papers, preparing marking schemes, and agreeing marks with other staff.
• Use appropriate and innovative forms of assessment practices to enhance learning and teaching.
• Provide timely, constructive, formative and comprehensive feedback to students using all forms of communication.
• Provide structured preparation for cadets undertaking CoC oral and written examinations.
• Conduct mock orals, tutorials, and exam practice for FMA Oral preparation.

Professional Development & Research

• Responsible for updating own discipline knowledge to develop research-informed teaching.
• Conduct research for career development, aligning with the Academy's ambition to be a research-active institution.

Administration & Compliance

• Assist Head of STCW Programs as required.
• Ensure full compliance with the requirements of the timetable and the annual academic calendar.
• Highlight curricula changes as required by maritime regulators and STCW code.

Training Delivery

• Deliver maritime training courses as required by the Line Manager.

Flexibility

• Be prepared to travel as required and occasionally work outside of standard working hours as in the contract.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Education

• STCW Class 1 Certificate of Competency ETO CoC.
• BSc level academic qualification in electrical engineering or its equivalent.

Preferred Education

• Master's Degree.
• Teaching qualification.

Essential Experience

• Experience of maritime education and/or training.
• Thorough knowledge of STCW code.

Preferred Experience

• Sailed as an ETO on merchant navy deep sea vessels.
• Experience of working in an industry supporting seafarers.
• Educational experience with leading courses or programs, revising course content, developing new programs and courses.
• Knowledge of student-centred teaching and learning methodologies.
