Maintenance Lead Engineer- Electrical

Role Overview

Maintenance Lead Engineer - Electrical at Al Jomaih Energy and Water. This role leads the electrical maintenance function for a power generation facility, encompassing team leadership, technical oversight, project management, and operational readiness during pre-commissioning and post-commissioning phases.

Role Purpose

Lead all aspects of electrical maintenance operations, from planning and execution through continuous improvement. Supervise a team of electrical engineers and technicians, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, manage budgets and resources, and drive the transition from construction to reliable operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning & Execution

• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all electrical systems, including generators, transformers, switchgear, UPS, motors, and ancillary systems.
• Schedule and execute electrical maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to plant operations.
• Ensure necessary tooling is available and maintained.
• Ensure necessary third-party certifications are obtained and current.
• Monitor electrical preventive and corrective maintenance and overhauling work activities to ensure continuity and reliability of plant electrical equipment.
• Manage timely response to all emergency breakdowns and provide prompt corrective action to minimize downtime and avoid liquidity damages.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of electrical maintenance engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous development.
• Evaluate team performance and provide training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
• Supervise the activities and work of team members to ensure that targets and objectives are achieved and the business plan is delivered in line with required policies, processes, procedures, and systems.
• Ensure the maintenance team is authorized as Permit Receivers.

Technical Support

• Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting and resolution of electrical issues, ensuring best practices in maintenance and repair work.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for electrical failures and develop strategies to mitigate reoccurrence.
• Develop and promote a condition-based preventive maintenance culture on a day-to-day basis by conducting troubleshooting and root cause analyses to reduce reactive maintenance.
• Perform technical evaluation of quotations received from the purchase department and recommend appropriate choices.

Project Management

• Plan and oversee electrical maintenance projects and upgrades, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and compliance with safety regulations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, operations, and engineering, to facilitate coordinated maintenance efforts with minimal disruption.
• Support the Owner during the design review phase and during installation, commissioning, testing, and trial operation period.
• Review and finalize Operation & Maintenance manuals and Initial Spare Parts list.
• Develop the Master Equipment List.
• Develop and implement the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Identify spares and maintenance strategy based on criticality study of equipment.
• Prepare site-specific maintenance procedures and Work Instructions.
• Ensure timely placement of sub-contracts.
• Ensure readiness for the operational period by confirming all staff are trained and all systems and processes required for O&M operations are ready.
• Ensure the plant is fit for purpose to be taken over and that the plant is designed, built, commissioned, and tested as per the EPC Contract and other Project Agreements.

Budget and Resource Management

• Assist the Maintenance Manager in the development of the annual maintenance budget for electrical systems.
• Manage resources effectively.
• Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or reliability.

Procurement & Storage

• Ensure adequate inventories of spares and consumables and ensure timely procurement for efficient operation.
• Prepare purchase requisitions for spare parts and consumables.

Compliance and Safety

• Ensure all electrical maintenance activities comply with industry standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Conduct periodic safety audits, training, and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.
• Ensure compliance with corporate and site-specific procedures and Work Instructions.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, parts inventory, and performance metrics.
• Prepare reports outlining maintenance schedules, completed work, and any issues for management review.
• Develop, implement, and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance electrical maintenance processes.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and advancements to improve plant reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance within power generation, preferably in combined cycle power plants.
• Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, including power distribution and protection devices.

Skills & Competencies
