Role Overview

Magnet Program Manager at SEHA (Shaikh Khalifa Medical City). This position plays a pivotal role in guiding and managing the organization's efforts toward achieving and maintaining Magnet status through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Role Purpose

Lead the organization's Magnet recognition process, including documentation, data collection, and collaboration with nursing and leadership teams. Ensure compliance with Magnet standards, prepare for site visits, and facilitate ongoing improvements to nursing practice and patient care that align with Magnet principles.

Key Responsibilities

Command Leadership

  • Role model Magnet leadership style and behaviors at all times, promoting effective leadership.
  • Promote the philosophies and goals of the nursing division and the organization.
  • Establish and maintain Magnet Champion involvement and leadership of the Magnet concept implementation at SKMC.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to support the organization's shared governance culture, behaviors and activities in order to further empower nurses in their provision of nursing care.
  • Support Shared Governance Council leadership in their activities and development, providing guidance as appropriate and if necessary.
  • Participate on relevant committees as required.

Magnet Recognition Program Coordination

  • Lead the organization's efforts in achieving and maintaining ANCC Magnet Recognition status.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all Magnet-related activities, including planning, implementation, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Guide the development and submission of Magnet documentation, including application, self-assessment, and annual reports.
  • Ensure that the organization's nursing practices align with the Magnet framework, which includes transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements, and empirical outcomes.
  • Integrate the 14 Forces of Magnetism (or alternative current model) into the facility structure, culture and committees.
  • Direct or assist with the formulation of Magnet program goals and objectives, and strategic direction.
  • Ensure organizational and nursing policies support and concur with Magnet culture demonstration.
  • Advise nursing leadership and executive management if any deficits or causes for concern arise.
  • Develop and maintain own Magnet awareness expertise, ensuring remaining current regarding requirements and any changes to these.
  • Plan for and ensure preparedness of organization for Magnet appraisal site visit, following Magnet document submission.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing leadership, quality improvement, and human resources, to develop strategies and initiatives that align with Magnet standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to support and advocate for Magnet initiatives.
  • Serve as an educator and resource for nursing staff on the Magnet program, its significance, and the role each team member plays in meeting the Magnet standards.
  • Plan education and communication activities for the preparatory phases leading up to Magnet appraisal site visit in order to ensure staff awareness and participation.
  • Plan and deliver informational and education sessions as necessary to enhance Magnet understanding and behaviors.
  • Supervise and support Magnet educational activities undertaken by various groups or individuals within the organization.
  • Contribute to the planning of professional development of nursing staff in order to make recommendations for training or work modification, including orientation, professional development, and continual education needs.
  • Contribute to the education of Shared Governance Council members ensuring maintenance of excellence and evidence-based practice.
  • Communicate and liaise with various groups and roles of nurses within the organization.
  • Provide frequent updates to CNO about progress and status of preparations for Magnet Recognition.

Documentation and Data Management

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of required Magnet documentation, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to ensure Magnet Program designation.
  • Plan for and collect all documentation required for evidence of Magnet standards demonstration.
  • Identify areas for improvement or areas requiring clarification of information required for document completion.
  • Collect and analyse data related to nursing outcomes, patient care, and staff satisfaction, aligning findings with Magnet standards.
  • Prepare for the site visit, ensuring all necessary documentation is readily accessible and well-organized.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ANCC Magnet standards and ensure the organization is continuously meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Undertake (or oversee) the coordination of collection of key nursing outcome indicators, and the extraction and synthesizing of data in order to develop reports and high-level documents.
  • Undertake (or oversee) the submission of data to a nationally recognized database which compares facilities of like size and nature internationally (NDNQI).
  • Submit (or oversee) application for renewal of NDNQI membership annually, for international benchmarking.
  • Submit Magnet documentation to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for review for Magnet designation award consideration.

Program Evaluation and Improvement

  • Assess the effectiveness of the Magnet program within the organization and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on progress toward achieving Magnet standards.
  • Lead internal audits and surveys to assess readiness for Magnet application and reaccreditation.

Research Initiation and Oversight

  • Oversee and support nursing research activities within the organization, in association with the Nursing Research Council.
  • Undertake planned surveys at appropriate intervals to monitor preparedness for Magnet Recognition.
  • Provide feedback regarding Magnet preparedness, with action plans if required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) required.
  • Not less than 10 years post-graduate experience, preferably in acute tertiary hospitals.
  • Excellent communication ability and ability to produce reports in timely fashion.
  • Educator background and experience preferred.
  • Positive written references required.
  • Work experience with Magnet Recognition Program for at least 2 years desired.
  • Experience in a large healthcare facility on Excellence Journey desired.
  • Nursing registration with Nursing Board of home country required.
  • Department of Health (DoH) registration required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Senior level experience and/or project involvement experience required.
  • Competent computer skills required.
  • Magnet Program Director (MPD) or competencies certification desired.
