Role Purpose
To develop and manage library services that enable students to become independent and effective library users, support curriculum delivery, promote a love of reading, and maintain an attractive, well-organised library environment that serves the needs of all students.
Key Responsibilities
Library Instruction & Literacy
- Develop and deliver library information literacy sessions to ensure students can find resources independently, whether physical or online.
- Keep up to date with new releases to recommend books to students.
Collections & Resource Management
- Select and order new books appropriate to each section, grade level, student interests, and curriculum requirements.
- Catalogue all resources into the automated library system, Destiny Follett, using the Dewey system.
- Label and cover all books.
- Maintain the library database with current records of all students and teachers.
- Sign books in and out and re-shelve returned books.
Curriculum & Stakeholder Support
- Liaise with teachers to ensure topic-related resources are distributed to classrooms as required.
- Liaison with teaching and non-teaching staff and respond to enquiries on matters within the postholder's responsibility.
Overdues, Maintenance & Compliance
- Follow up overdue books from students and teachers.
- Receive payment for lost or damaged books.
- Repair damaged books.
- Comply with health and safety requirements, relevant legislation, and school policies.
Library Environment & Promotion
- Maintain an attractive library environment that caters for all students' needs, whether for quiet reading or independent study.
- Promote reading through attractive displays to encourage students to enjoy a wide range of literature and foster a love of books to become lifelong readers.
- Arrange author visits.
- Arrange book fairs with local book shops.
- Run the Book Club, where students order books from a catalogue, consolidate orders for the whole school, and distribute books upon arrival.
Development & Training
- Assist with the development of policies and procedures.
- Attend any necessary training associated with the duties of the post.
General
- Undertake any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the post.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Library Studies/Information or Bachelor of Library Information/Studies.
- 1–2 years of experience as a Librarian.
Skills & Competencies
- Fluent English communication skills, written and oral.
- Arabic speaker is preferable.
- Strong interpersonal skills for daily contact with parents in a diverse, multicultural environment.
- Excellent office management skills.
