Role Overview
Learning Management System Specialist at University of Kalba. The role combines system administration, technical support, and faculty training to manage and optimize the Blackboard Ultra learning management system across the institution.
Role Purpose
Serve as the primary Blackboard Ultra administrator and learning technology specialist, responsible for managing the LMS infrastructure, supporting faculty and student adoption, delivering training and technical support, and driving the implementation and enhancement of educational technologies across the university.
Key Responsibilities
System Administration & Maintenance
- Manage and maintain the Blackboard Learning Management System to ensure seamless integration and effective use by faculty, staff, and students.
- Monitor system updates and apply patches as necessary to ensure the stability and performance of Blackboard Ultra.
- Develop and maintain documentation on using Blackboard Ultra for various user roles.
- Collaborate with IT support teams to resolve complex technical issues.
Training & Teaching
- Teach and train University of Kalba faculty and students on the functional tools of Blackboard Ultra learning management system.
- Provide teaching sessions in Blackboard LMS.
- Conduct small group and one-to-one instructional support and education for LMS.
- Assist and support the university to design and facilitate professional development programs and orientations designed for faculty.
- Develop training materials including videos and other resources for educational technologies for faculty use.
Course Setup & User Support
- Work with individual faculty to set up courses in Blackboard Ultra from a functional standpoint.
- Provide support to users via workshops, documentation, video tutorials, service requests and consultations.
- Provide functional and academic support for the current Learning Management System Blackboard Ultra Learn.
- Assist and support the university with faculty integration of instructional technology for teaching and learning in the classroom.
Technology Research & Implementation
- Enhance the Blackboard Ultra environment through investigation and deployment of new technologies in collaboration with Information Technology technical support.
- Participate in research of other emerging Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Google Classroom and others.
- Research and evaluate emerging instructional technologies and methods.
- Participate in testing new features and providing feedback to improve the system.
- Manage educational technology implementation projects like Banner and LMS platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with educational departments on campus for user buy-in and support.
- Work with University of Kalba instructional designers and faculty by providing support and training for educational technologies and integration.
- Collaborate with University of Kalba units to develop and manage strategies for successful implementation of new educational technologies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master's Degree in Instructional Technology or related field.
- At least five years' experience in a related field.
- Experience with Blackboard Ultra Learn and other learning management systems.
- Considerable knowledge of the current literature, trends and developments in the field of instructional technology.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements.
