Role Purpose
The Intern supports the Food Safety and Microbiology sections by conducting scheduled inspections, verifying Critical Control Points and prerequisite programs, collecting food samples for analysis, maintaining food safety records, and assisting with investigations and traceability exercises to ensure compliance with food safety standards and prevent contamination.
Key Responsibilities
Food Safety Verification & Compliance
- Support verification of Critical Control Points, Operational Prerequisite Programs, and Prerequisite Programs (CCPs, OPRPs, and PRPs) established per the Hazard Control Plan.
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards through scheduled inspections and monitoring.
- Conduct personal hygiene verification of Food Handlers and report deviations to the established personal hygiene policy.
- Support scheduled thermometer verification to ensure temperature monitoring equipment remains accurate and fit for purpose.
Laboratory & Sample Management
- Perform food sample collection for microbiology analysis in line with the agreed sampling plan.
- Support administrative tasks of the Microbiology laboratory and Food Safety section.
- Maintain accurate and accessible records.
Data Gathering & Record Maintenance
- Support food safety data gathering and maintenance of monitoring information.
- Support food safety administration, including maintenance of monitoring and verification registers.
- Ensure accurate and complete food safety records to identify trends and recurring issues.
Investigation & Traceability
- Support customer complaint investigation and traceability exercises.
- Gather evidence and retrieve documentation to establish root causes.
- Trace affected product accurately within required timeframes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Level 2 Food Safety Training (required).
- Food Safety Level 3 (preferred).
- Bachelor's Degree with background in science (preferred).
- Experience in food production or related field (advantageous).
Skills & Competencies
- Good communication skills and fluent English language proficiency.
- Ability to contribute effectively within a team environment.
- Capable of independently planning and prioritizing own tasks.
