Role Overview
Installation Analysis Engineer at McDermott. The role applies conceptual knowledge of Installation Analysis to solve straightforward to moderately complex installation engineering problems with moderate guidance from colleagues and leadership.
Role Purpose
Analyze and solve Installation Analysis problems by applying technical experience, judgment, and precedents. Build knowledge of company processes and customers while understanding and applying critical business drivers to engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Analysis
- Perform FEED, Studies, and detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on complex and demanding engineering tasks.
- Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures.
- Perform design verification through single-discipline checks and assist with inter-discipline checks.
- Check engineering performed by others within the Discipline.
Fabrication, Construction and Installation Engineering (FabCSE)
- Perform or review designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, and procedures for erection sequences for jackets, topsides, and other structures.
- Perform or review loadout procedures and guidance during operations.
- Perform or review construction lift analyses and procedures for activities such as floatover, stackings, and roll-ups.
- Perform or review weighing procedures.
- Perform or review design and detailing of miscellaneous fabrication yard items.
- Perform or review crane arrangements and rigging arrangements.
- Perform or review trailer arrangements and operations, including drawings and procedures.
Pipeline Installation Engineering (Preferable, not mandatory)
- Perform pipeline Installation Engineering designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, and procedures for transporting and installing submarine pipelines, risers, spools, PLETS, manifolds, and cables, including installation aids.
Structural Installation Engineering (Preferable, not mandatory)
- Perform Structural Installation Engineering designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, and procedures for loadout, transportation, and installation of offshore structures, including installation aids and barge upgrades and modifications.
Naval Architecture (Preferable, not mandatory)
- Perform Naval Architecture engineering designs, analyses, evaluations, calculations, and procedures related to all aspects of marine operations covering loadout, transportation, and installation, including barge upgrades.
Project Coordination and Documentation
- Gain familiarity with project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements; identify concerns as early as practicable.
- Recognize changes to scope and notify the Discipline Lead Engineer.
- Interface with all disciplines to develop clash-free designs.
- Interface with other departments to obtain input for Discipline designs and drawings.
- Document substantive communications that result in significant decisions or assignment of actions and forward copies to Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager.
- Keep the Lead Engineer apprised of all activities, progress, and concerns.
- Capture lessons learned and enter into MDR's Lessons Learned system.
Procurement and Vendor Support
- Provide required bid inputs as directed.
- Assist procurement personnel in producing discipline equipment, materials, and services.
- Prepare requisitions, evaluate technical quotations, prepare queries, compile bid tabulations and recommendations, and prepare purchase requisitions as directed by Discipline Lead Engineer.
- Coordinate with Procurement to expedite vendor documents as directed.
- Review MTOs for requisitions.
- Review vendor and subcontractor submittals, checking for compliance with project specifications and providing comments as necessary.
- Check final subcontractor and vendor data manuals to ensure all requested data has been received and approved.
Design Support and Scheduling
- Prepare sketches of detailed design to guide Designers.
- Check drawings.
- Prioritize and organize own work to meet deadlines.
- Focus on completing work within budgets.
Reporting and Communication
- Communicate and explain information in straightforward engineering activities.
- Assist in updating weight report based on receipt of vendor information.
- Develop an awareness of costs related to own work and of the Discipline.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
- 3–8 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design.
- Familiar with the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable.
- Knowledge of many basic design techniques and analysis methods.
- Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or member of a professional engineering society (preferable).

- Reports to: Manager (Construction Support Engineer).
- Supervises: Trainee Engineers.
- Liaises with: All design and drafting disciplines, all Engineering disciplines, Fabrication groups, and Document Control.
