Role Overview
Inertial Mechanical Engineer at Si-Ware Systems. This role supports the design, stress analysis, and structural development of high-precision inertial systems including IMUs, gyroscopes, accelerometers, and integrated navigation systems.
Role Purpose
Develop and validate mechanical designs for high-precision housings, structural mounts, and mechanical assemblies that ensure structural integrity, performance, and reliability of next-generation inertial solutions through 3D CAD modeling, heat transfer management, and geometric tolerancing.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Modeling
- Assist in 3D CAD modeling using Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D CAD software.
- Generate detailed engineering drawings for mechanical components and assemblies.
- Support the design of compact enclosures, internal chassis, and mounting interfaces for sensitive inertial sensors.
Stress & Thermal Analysis
- Perform basic stress analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural integrity, material deformation, load paths, and safety factors.
- Apply principles of engineering dynamics to assess structural performance and mechanical response under dynamic and static loads.
- Apply heat transfer principles and thermal management techniques including conductive cooling, heat sinks, and thermal interface materials.
- Maintain sensor stability across operating temperature ranges.
Manufacturing & Design Optimization
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure precise alignment and repeatable assembly on technical drawings.
- Perform basic tolerance stack-up analyses to evaluate critical fits and sensor alignment tolerances.
- Incorporate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) considerations for common production methods such as CNC machining.
Prototyping, Validation & Testing
- Support building, evaluating, and iterating physical prototypes.
- Assist in validating structural stress models and thermal performance during lab testing and hardware evaluation.
