Role Purpose

The Inclusion Assistant supports students with Additional Educational Needs and Special Educational Needs to access learning, develop independence, and build confidence. The role works closely with school staff and teachers to reinforce learning and contribute to whole-child development.

Key Responsibilities

School Governance and Compliance

• Assist the school in achieving its overall vision and strategic intentions and contribute to the achievement of relevant targets as set out in the school's improvement plan and self-evaluation form
• Comply with regulations pertaining to health and safety at work legislation and adhere to school policies relating to safe working practice and equal opportunities regulations
• Comply with the school's Performance Management Policy, ensuring challenging annual targets are set, and fulfil the role of performance management reviewer if directed by the Principal
• Engage in annual training linked to child protection, safeguarding and health and safety, together with all training deemed appropriate for school improvement or performance management
• Comply with the school's staff dress code at all times, including the wearing of photo ID and lanyard
• Comply with the school's computer Acceptable Use Policy at all times
• Attend all staff briefings
• Sign in and sign out at relevant school reception if off site at any point during the normal working day

Student Support and Learning

• Develop an understanding of the Additional Educational Needs and Special Educational Needs of the student(s) concerned
• Take into account the student(s)' special needs and ensure their access to the lesson and its content through appropriate clarification, explanations, equipment and materials
• Build and maintain successful relationships with student(s), treating them consistently with respect and consideration
• Help reinforce learning
• Help promote independent learning
• Assist students with physical needs
• Help students record work in an appropriate way
• Develop study and organisational skills
• Keep students on task and build motivation
• Model good practice
• Help build the student(s)' confidence and enhance self-esteem
• Maintain liaison with parents regarding student(s) performance

Collaboration with Teachers

• Hold formal and informal meetings with regard to Teaching and Learning plans for lessons and activities
• Prepare materials and resources as required
• Prepare students beforehand for a task
• Work on differentiated activities with identified groups
• Support the teacher in implementing specific teaching techniques
• Supervise practical tasks
• Contribute to keeping records on evaluating the progress of identified students

Qualifications & Experience

• Two-year diploma degree in Education, Special Education, or a high school diploma with a Special Education training program
• At least 2 years of experience in the same field
• Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language

• A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check is required
