Role Overview
Head Nurse - OPD at NMC Healthcare, Sharjah. The post holder will work within the scope of practice, prioritizing the health, wellbeing and safety of patients as they assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient needs.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Practice
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient needs.
- Ensure and oversee the care delivered to all patients in the unit is safe, appropriate and effective.
- Determine nursing interventions based on assessment data.
- Prioritize identified patient needs.
- Implement nursing actions and evaluate patient outcomes.
- Develop or revise the plan of care.
- Deliver identified patient needs.
- Perform advanced or specialized nursing skills competently.
- Evaluate the ability of the patient and patient's bystanders to understand and participate in decisions about their care.
- Facilitate patient education.
- Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope, including but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation.
Team Leadership & Management
- Manage teams with evidenced experience.
- Coordinate the overall clinical activities of the unit when assigned to the charge nurse role.
- Collaborate with the Nursing Supervisor on staffing for a particular shift.
- Act as a clinical resource for staff within the department and unit.
- Take a proactive role under the guidance of Nursing Management and Nursing Education in training, education and continuous quality improvement activities of nursing staff.
- Promote a safe learning environment.
Clinical Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate and consult with other healthcare disciplines.
- Represent nursing at multidisciplinary rounds.
- Influence and implement change when necessary.
- Make decisions and communicate effectively.
Documentation & Records
- Maintain accurate and real-time clinical records.
- Use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation with organizational and administrative skills.
Professional Development & Practice Standards
- Maintain current knowledge of clinical nursing practice.
- Participate in the development of standards, procedures and protocols.
- Facilitate evidence-based practice.
- Promote change in nursing practice when required.
- Identify opportunities for improvement.
- Perform other professional duties as may be assigned within scope and ability.
Qualifications & Experience
- Appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all mandated qualifications and experience.
- Evidenced experience in managing teams.
- Desirable: evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.
Skills & Competencies
- Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
- Desirable: ability to communicate effectively in Arabic.
Additional Information
- Manage own professional re-licensure.
- Willing to work across departments when necessary.
