Role Overview
Head Nurse - OPD at NMC Healthcare, Ras Al Khaimah. The post holder will always work within the scope of practice, putting the health, wellbeing and safety of patients first as they assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient needs.
Role Purpose
To ensure and oversee that care delivered to all patients in the unit is safe, appropriate and effective, while leading nursing staff, coordinating clinical activities, and advancing evidence-based practice across the outpatient department.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Assessment
- Assess patient needs and determine appropriate nursing interventions based on assessment data.
- Prioritize identified patient needs.
- Develop or revise the plan of care.
- Implement nursing actions and evaluate patient outcomes.
- Deliver identified patient needs.
- Evaluate the ability of the patient and patient's bystanders to understand and participate in decisions about their care.
- Maintain accurate and real-time clinical records.
Patient Education & Support
- Facilitate patient education.
Clinical Skills & Knowledge
- Perform advanced or specialized nursing skills competently.
- Maintain current knowledge of clinical nursing practice.
- Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope, including but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation.
Unit Operations & Leadership
- Coordinate the overall clinical activities of the unit when assigned to the charge nurse role.
- Collaborate with the Nursing Supervisor on staffing for a particular shift.
- Act as a clinical resource for staff within the department and unit.
- Be willing to work across departments when necessary.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Communicate and consult with other health care disciplines.
- Represent nursing at multidisciplinary rounds.
Clinical Programs & Standards
- Plan, implement and evaluate clinical programs.
- Participate in the development of standards, procedures and protocols.
- Facilitate evidence-based practice.
- Promote change in nursing practice when required.
Staff Development & Continuous Improvement
- Take a proactive role under the guidance of Nursing Management and Nursing Education in training, education and continuous quality improvement activities of nursing staff.
- Promote a safe learning environment.
- Identify opportunities for improvement.
General
- Perform other professional duties as may be assigned within scope and ability.
Qualifications & Experience
- Appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all qualifications and experience mandated by that authority.
- Evidenced experience in managing teams.
- Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to influence and implement change when necessary.
- Ability to make decisions and communicate effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
- Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation (desirable).
- Ability to communicate effectively in Arabic (desirable).
- Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team (desirable).
Additional Information
- Post holder must manage their own professional re-licensure.
