General Practitioner

Role Overview

General Practitioner at NMC Healthcare. The role involves applying medical knowledge and skills for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of illnesses, diseases, and infections in patients in Internal Medicine.

Role Purpose

Provide comprehensive general medical care to patients across hospital wards, outpatient clinics, and external settings, ensuring preventive and promotive healthcare services while maintaining professional standards and coordinating specialist care when required.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Diagnosis & Treatment

• Examine and talk to patients to diagnose their medical conditions.
• Conduct preventive or promotive healthcare services for any patients coming in; follow standard protocols as per privileges of General Practitioner defined by DOH.
• Provide general care to patients in hospital wards and in outpatient clinics.
• Make notes, both as a record of treatment and for referral.
• Keep patients for observations for short period only if required.

Clinical Protocols & Prescribing

• Follow protocols regarding prescribing medicines, lab tests and Radiology.
• Call or inform Specialists and Consultants accordingly for further take over, if need be.
• Refer patients to Specialists as and when the need is identified.
• Administer preventive vaccinations as and when required.

Operational Deployment

• Work in all areas of hospital (wards, ICU, ER etc) depending on experience and deployment by HOD.
• Work in external clinics if deployed.
• Accompany for home visits if deployed and provide support for patient transfer (in and out), if deployed.
• Be willing to travel out of UAE for patient transfer, if need be.

Stakeholder & Team Collaboration

• Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment.
• Work with other doctors as part of a team.
• Promote health education among patients.

Professional & Regulatory

• Participate in healthcare related activities such as medical camps, outdoor check-ups and social and CSR activities.
• Report to DOH as per statutory and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable local regulations and requirements.
• Maintain professional quality standards to meet those of the JCI and DOH.

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship.
• At least three years of practice as a GP.
• Must have license to practice by DOH.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Arabic desirable but not mandatory.
