Role Overview
Forward Deployed Engineer at Gecko Robotics, based in the Middle East. This is a hands-on engineering role working directly with clients to solve critical infrastructure challenges.

Role Purpose
Forward Deployed Engineers are builders who work shoulder to shoulder with clients on site to solve hard-hitting infrastructure problems. They travel to customer locations to see firsthand what clients are experiencing, leverage data and insights across Gecko to build solutions, and serve as the first line of defense in solving complex challenges such as predictive maintenance on US Navy ships, Air Force support, and boiler inspections.
Key Responsibilities
Problem-Solving and Impact
- Identify the highest impact problems across customer operations.
- Spend significant time with customers to understand the true nature of their challenges.
- Develop new approaches and iterate until reaching measurable impact.
- Travel frequently to customer sites to assess problems firsthand.
Technical Delivery
- Build solutions using whatever tools are necessary to create change.
- Leverage data and insights from team members across Gecko to design optimal solutions for clients.
- Adapt quickly when priorities shift and adopt new technologies as needed.
Growth and Learning
- Continuously learn and experiment with emerging tools and approaches.
- Work on hard problems that have not yet been solved by others.
- Develop capabilities through challenging work and collaboration.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant professional experience.
- Proficiency with programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with data structures, storage systems, cloud infrastructure, and front-end frameworks.
Skills & Competencies
- Understanding of how technical decisions impact the end user.
- Ability to work effectively in teams of technical and non-technical individuals.
- Comfort working in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives and user iteration.
- Demonstrated ability to continuously learn, work independently, and make decisions with minimal supervision.
- Experience with Python, JavaScript, and React.
- Experience with Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services.
