Formation Evaluation Geoscientist (Data Management)

Role Overview

Formation Evaluation Geoscientist (Data Management) at AspenTech, based on-site in Kuwait.

Role Purpose

Support a large-scale project focused on maintaining high-quality well log data in a repository, preparing composite logs, and enabling advanced geological workflows. This role centers on the management, quality control, conditioning, standardization, and maintenance of petrophysical datasets within Aspen Geolog, not on advanced reservoir characterization or interpretation studies.

Key Responsibilities

Data Management & Maintenance

• Manage and maintain well log datasets, including wireline, LWD, MWD, and cased-hole logs.
• Load, organize, validate, and maintain petrophysical data (field data, processed data, and interpreted data) within Aspen Geolog.
• Support the loading and maintenance of newly drilled wells and updates to existing well data.
• Standardize, validate, certify, and maintain well log datasets, metadata, and quality management procedures.

Quality Control & Assurance

• Perform well log quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
• Review and resolve data quality issues, including missing intervals, depth mismatches, curve naming issues, and formatting discrepancies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues within Aspen Geolog and associated applications.

Workflows & Reporting

• Generate composite and spliced logs, final LAS deliverables, and support repository management workflows.
• Develop and improve workflows for data loading, validation, quality control, and reporting.
• Create dashboards, reports, and data quality metrics to monitor project performance and data in repository.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, workflow optimization, and automation.

Stakeholder Coordination

• Coordinate with geologists, petrophysicists, and data managers to ensure data quality and adherence to established standards.
• Work in close collaboration with the Project Manager and customer on projects to ensure effective coordination and successful delivery of project activities.
• Collaborate with other AspenTech functions to maintain and develop business opportunities.

Communication & Advisory

• Prepare and present technical reports, presentations, and recommendations to senior management and customers.
• Work closely with customers to understand their specific challenges and provide innovative solutions that drive long-term value and success.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Petrophysics, Geology, Geoscience, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in Well Log Data Management.
• Strong understanding of wireline, LWD, MWD, and cased-hole logging data.
• Practical experience in log conditioning, log splicing, depth matching, normalization, quality control, and data certification workflows.
• Good understanding of petrophysical topics including NMR, ECS, XRD, SONIC, PNL, PLT, and TOC calculations.
• Familiarity with LAS standards, data exchange formats, and industry data management practices.
• Experience working with large volumes of well log data and corporate data repositories.
• Proven hands-on experience with AspenTech Formation Evaluation software (Aspen Geolog) and/or other petrophysical applications such as PowerLog, Techlog, DecisionSpace Petrophysics, or Interactive Petrophysics.
• Experience in subsurface data digitalization, workflow automation, data integration, dashboard development, and AI/ML-driven solutions for data quality monitoring, anomaly detection, validation, and process optimization.
• Experience with Python, TCL, or similar technologies for automation and development.
