Firefighter

Role Overview

Firefighter position with V2X, physically located in Kuwait in support of WEXMAC. Under the supervision of the Fire Officer, the Firefighter responds to multiple types of emergencies, operates firefighting equipment and apparatus, and maintains vehicles and protective equipment in serviceable condition.

Role Purpose

The Firefighter operates as a member of the fire department, responding to emergencies including structural fires, aircraft fires, rescue operations, medical emergencies, and hazardous materials responses. The role prioritizes fire suppression, life safety, equipment maintenance, and compliance with health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Response & Firefighting Operations

• Respond to multiple types of emergencies operating as a firefighter.
• Enter burning or contaminated structures, vehicles, and other immediately dangerous to life and health areas to fight fires and perform rescues while wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Act as a crew member on structural fires, aircraft fires, rescue operations, medical emergencies, hazardous materials responses, and other emergency events in accordance with department standard operating procedures.
• Extinguish fires and take precautions to prevent fire rekindling.
• Operate pumps, foam generators, turrets, nozzles, and other firefighting tools and equipment.
• Serve as a team member on a rescue unit, ladder truck, engine company, water tender, or airport ARFF apparatus.

Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance

• Maintain vehicles, equipment, tools, and protective clothing in serviceable condition.
• Maintain and clean personal protective equipment.
• Ensure emergency equipment is operational and in a state of readiness as required by NFPA or other industry standards.

Inspections & Documentation

• Conduct fire inspections and pre-incident planning as part of a team.
• Ensure facilities are safe and documentation is recorded and tracked.
• Protect and preserve evidence indicating the cause of fire at fire sites.
• Maintain documentation necessary to meet Environmental, Health, and Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
• Adequately and honestly track all data related to metrics.

Operations & Communications

• Operate computerized digital fire alarm receiving equipment including two-way radio communications equipment.
• Communicate professionally both orally and in writing with team members and others to relay information necessary for job success, including performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, quality standard procedures, and safety practices.
• Attend meetings in the absence of the supervisor or as needed.

Administrative & Logistical Support

• Perform additional property control and logistical duties in support of fire department operations.
• Maintain accountability of equipment.
• Schedule maintenance of equipment.
• Coordinate appointments of subordinates and perform other administrative duties as needed.
• Perform duties in support of organizational metrics.
• Provide direct support to the achievement of all metrics related to WEXMAC.

Safety & Compliance

• Actively participate and maintain a safe workplace, ensuring safety is the highest priority.
• Comply with all Environmental, Health, and Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.
• Exercise caution to avoid personal injury and property damage and comply with strict health and safety standards.
• Properly wear personal protective clothing.
• Comply with all Fire Department, company, and Army safety policies.
• Conduct and take part in frequent reoccurring proficiency training and on-the-job training and maintain required certifications.
• Participate as a positive team member and conform to the WEXMAC contract Performance Work Statement.

General Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum one year related experience as a Firefighter, or one year of education substituted for experience if degree is required.
• Minimum one year experience as a Firefighter working on a Department of Defense installation preferred.
• Must pass annual Firefighter Occupational Health Exam and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Fit Testing in accordance with NFPA 1582 and 1583.
• Must meet position certifications in accordance with DoD Manual 6055.06.
• Firefighter I/II certification required.
• HazMat Operations with Mission-Specific Competencies, Personal Protective Equipment, and Product Control certification required.
• First Aid Provider certification required.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
• Airport Firefighter certification required.
• Driver/Operator Pumper certification required.
• Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting certification required.
• Driver/Operator Aerial certification required.
• Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply certification required.
• Must be available for recall.
• Must have a valid Home Country License with minimum one year validity.
• Must have a valid Passport with minimum two years validity.

Additional Information

Working Conditions

• Duties involve work in outdoors with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions including frequent dust storms and high temperatures up to 130 degrees in summer months.
• Potential exposure to chemical or biological agents may exist.
• Use of personal protective equipment in certain areas is required, including head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
• Must respond and work in all types of weather and in less than ideal conditions.
• Must be able to enter hazardous environments.
• Must be able to climb ladders to gain access to upper levels of buildings or to rescue individuals from burning structures or when trapped.

Physical Requirements

• Must meet or exceed physical requirements contained in the current edition NFPA 1582, including but not limited to physical strength and ability to perform heavy and strenuous tasks for extended periods of time under dangerous and uncomfortable conditions.
• Must often perform duties while wearing bulky protective gear, including self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Must be available for recall and manage personnel issues off duty.
