Fire Lieutenant

Role Overview

Fire Lieutenant position with V2X, physically located in Kuwait in support of WEXMAC.

Role Purpose

Respond as a crew leader of a fire department crew to save lives, provide first aid, preserve property and the environment, and maintain mission functions. Mitigate hazards during fires, medical emergencies, hazmat incidents, technical rescues, natural disasters, aircraft accidents, and other emergency events. Operate specialized protective gear in situations involving poisonous gases, radioactive materials, and hazardous biological products.

Key Responsibilities

Crew Leadership & Operations

• Direct the crew in firefighting activities, working from specific orders from higher-level supervisors at the scene.
• Lead all firefighting activities at the scene of a fire in the absence of the supervisor.
• Direct and participate in practice drills and training classes for the assigned crew.
• Assign crew members to station maintenance work such as cleaning equipment.
• Manage the fire apparatus and maintain facility improvement planning.
• Participate in the work of the crew of one piece of firefighting apparatus as a work leader and crew-chief.

Training & Proficiency

• Conduct recurrent proficiency training and on-the-job training.
• Apply industry standards and accepted trade practices to perform tasks required to execute and accomplish emergency incident objectives.
• Attend all training, instruct classes as required, and participate in the DoD Firefighter Certification Program and physical fitness programs.
• Assist in training firefighters.

Fire Safety & Inspections

• Conduct fire risk management surveys and company inspections.
• Conduct facility inspections and prepare pre-fire plans.
• Direct the crew in fire protection inspection functions.
• Conduct fire inspections and fire safety programs.
• Provide fire safety training and education to the general public, soldiers, and other members of the community.

Safety & Compliance

• Exercise caution to avoid personal injury and property damage.
• Maintain accountability for meeting the requirements of NFPA 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments.
• Maintain the ability to pass physical fitness exam in accordance with NFPA 1500.
• Subject to drug testing and background investigation.

Documentation & Communication

• Prepare reports for the supervisor concerning fire runs, training, inspection, or other topics.
• Effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
• Thoroughly understand policies, rules, regulations, practices, and procedures of the Fire Department organization.

Additional Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Captain or Assistant Fire Chief.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school graduate or equivalent and two years of full-time experience as a paid firefighter.
• Associate degree or higher in Fire Science preferred.
• Must meet training and certification requirements outlined in DoD Manual 6055.06.

Skills & Competencies

Required Certifications

• Fire Officer I (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress [IFSAC], National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications [Pro-Board], or Department of Defense [DoD]).
• Fire Instructor I (IFSAC, Pro-Board, or DoD).
• Fire Inspector I (IFSAC, Pro-Board, or DoD).
• Driver Operator Pumper (IFSAC, Pro-Board, or DoD).
• Driver Operator Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) (IFSAC, Pro-Board, or DoD).
• Driver Operator Mobile Water Supply (MWS) (IFSAC, Pro-Board, or DoD).
• Driver Operator Aerial (IFSAC, Pro-Board, or DoD).
• Emergency Medical Responder or equivalent with current CPR card (EMT preferred).

Preferred Certifications

• Hazardous Material Incident Commander.
• HazMat Technician.
• Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF).

• Demonstrate firefighter knowledge and skills in a professional manner.
• Exercise professional discretion and good judgment.
• Understand the effect of decisions made.
• Work effectively with fellow employees and management personnel at all levels, including multinational staff and military officials.
• Exhibit strong interpersonal skills.
• Communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrate good computer skills in MS-Word, MS-Excel, and MS-Outlook.

Physical Requirements

• Meet physical fitness requirements to be deemed fit for duty.
• Possess agility and strength to hoist, lift, and carry 100 pounds or more.
• Be in good physical condition.
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment including helmet, body armor, fire-retardant clothing, and hard hats.

Additional Information

Equipment & Materials

• Operate motorized firefighting apparatus, tools, ladders, equipment, and systems.
• Use personal computer, printer, calculator, copy machine, and other general office equipment.

Working Environment

• Work is in a general operational and office environment in Kuwait.
• May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty and extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Duty location is subject to extreme hot and dusty weather conditions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Manage large department with multiple fire stations geographically dispersed and a large number of personnel.
