Role Overview

Fire Fighter at Qatar Steel, Fire & Security. Based at Qatar Steel.

Role Purpose

Respond to fire alarms and emergency calls to protect lives, property, and the environment. Operate firefighting equipment safely and effectively, provide emergency medical care, conduct inspections, and maintain readiness through training, drills, and equipment maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Response

• Respond to fire alarms and emergency calls to protect lives, property and environment.
• Operate tools and equipment used for firefighting safely and effectively.
• Provide appropriate medical care within scope of knowledge in emergency situations.
• Analyze hazardous situations and develop quick solutions and actions.
• Handle different types of stretchers for emergency use.

Inspection & Investigation

• Inspect scenes of fire or accidents to identify causes or discover significant findings.
• Conduct plant site inspection for confined space entry and prepare the rescue plan.
• Conduct gas tests inside the plant premises.
• Conduct daily routine foam trailer inspection and maintain records.

Rescue Operations

• Participate in specialist stand-by duties using firefighting equipment's breathing apparatus and specialist rope rescue equipment during plant routine maintenance and emergency situations.
• Participate and mobilize rope rescue equipment onsite for stand-by duties such as high-risk elevated activities and confined space entry.

Training & Drills

• Conduct basic firefighting training for plant employees.
• Participate in fire drills as a way to stay alert and up-to-date with job duties.

Equipment Maintenance

• Clean and maintain personal equipment and keep it ready for use.
• Ensure operation of firefighting equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, and troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Evaluate new firefighting equipment and techniques.

Knowledge & Safety

• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of local topography.
• Follow all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.

Reporting & Administration

• Write accurate reports after incidents and submit them to Senior Firefighter.
• Perform other related duties or assignments as directed by supervisor or line manager.

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certification

• Secondary school certification from a recognised professional institute.
• Minimum 3 to 6 months firefighting training from a recognised professional institute.
• First aid certification or NEBOSH certificate preferred.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in integrated steel plant, oil and gas industry, or petrochemical sector.

Skills & Competencies

• Understand basic hazardous material response procedures.
• Demonstrate very good knowledge in firefighting with strong and demonstrated experience in handling and managing emergency situations.
• Draft accurate incident reports.
• Work effectively with fellow employees and management personnel at all levels, including multinational staff.
• Work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision as required.
• Think clearly and calmly under stress situations.
• Build good relationships across the organization.
• Handle personnel from a multi-cultural work environment.
• Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with strong presentation skills.
• Demonstrate good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Understand Qatar and GCC culture and working environment.
