Field Service Technician (Downhole Service Equipment)

Role Overview

Field Service Technician (Downhole Service Equipment) at NOV. This role is based at customer locations and company facilities, with domestic and international travel required, including offshore assignments.

Role Purpose

Install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate Torquemasters, Jar Testers, Bucking Units, and other downhole service equipment at customer sites and company facilities. Deliver exceptional technical support in field environments while ensuring safety compliance and equipment performance to manufacturer and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Installation and Commissioning

• Install, commission, and perform functional testing of Torquemasters, Jar Testers, and Bucking Units.

Maintenance and Diagnostics

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on customer equipment.
• Calibrate equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and customer requirements.
• Maintain company service tools, test equipment, and assigned vehicle in good working condition.

Troubleshooting and Repair

• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems to minimize equipment downtime.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals.

Documentation and Reporting

• Complete service reports, maintenance records, and documentation accurately and promptly.

Stakeholder Support

• Provide technical support and operator training to customers during equipment installation and service visits.
• Recommend equipment upgrades, replacement parts, and maintenance improvements to customers.

Coordination and Escalation

• Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Technical Support to resolve complex equipment issues.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety policies, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.

Field Operations

• Travel to customer sites domestically and internationally as required, including offshore locations when applicable.
• Participate in on-call support and emergency service response as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• 4–6 years of field service or maintenance experience supporting industrial or oilfield equipment (hydro-mechanical machinery).
• Prior hands-on experience working on Torquemasters, Roughnecks, Top Drives, Bucking Units, Power Tongs, and Jar Testers.
• Prior experience working onsite on rigs and offshore rigs in Oil & Gas fields.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot mechanical issues on various downhole product lines.
• Experience using diagnostic equipment, precision measuring tools, and calibration instruments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic service reporting systems.

• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain required travel documentation.
• Ability to pass customer-required safety training and medical requirements.
