Role Overview
Field Service Engineer at FLSmidth. The role involves mechanical site service and installation support for core equipment and similar non-FLSmidth equipment related to Hydromet and Pyromet operations in the mining industry, including rotary kilns, coolers, and dryers.
Role Purpose
Deliver aftermarket site services and mechanical installation of core products for mining equipment, ensuring safe execution, client satisfaction, and identification of business opportunities while supporting FLSmidth's service operations globally.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to safety protocols at all times.
- Undergo safety induction and medical testing as required for specific sites.
- Follow safety standards and practices of FLSmidth and the client at the site.
- Conduct safety inspections and understand site conditions prior to commencing site activities.
- Coordinate with the client and site to obtain gate passes and work permits.
Planning & Execution
- Understand the scope of work, schedule of activities, manpower requirements, and tools and tackles needed for shutdown activities or new installations.
- Ensure assigned jobs are completed in accordance with Instruction Manuals, drawings, and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Support activity planning and understand erection schedules.
Supervision & Quality Assurance
- Independently or jointly supervise site jobs carried out by mechanical contractors.
- Prepare reports and protocols including No Load and Load Trial Protocols, Commissioning Reports, and Performance Test Reports.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate with customers, consultants, and various FLSmidth functions for safe and proper site execution.
- Accompany experienced service managers to support them on site activities.
- Make Minutes of Meeting capturing all site activities and obtain client sign-off.
- Collaborate with GPLM and RPLM of Comminution products to resolve site-related product issues.
Business Development
- Collaborate with clients to identify business potential and generate leads for aftermarket business.
Administrative Support
- Support all service business activities while at office.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in a relevant field.
- Basic knowledge of erection techniques including safe lifting methods, optimum usage of tools and tackles.
- Basic knowledge of erection and commissioning, activity planning, and understanding of erection schedules.

- Innovative and swift in decision-making.
- Ability to read and understand Instruction Operation Manuals in English.
- Sound knowledge of engineering drawings and their interpretation.
- Knowledge of MS Office.
- Knowledge of MS Project.
- Fluent in English.
Additional Information
- Willing to travel extensively throughout Middle East countries, approximately 200–250 days per year.
- May need to work extended hours at site to fulfill site demands.
