Field Service Engineer - GIS

Role Overview

Field Service Engineer - GIS at Hitachi Energy Engineering Technologies Co. (KSCC) in Kuwait City, Al Kuwayt, Kuwait. Full-time position.

Role Purpose

Support critical power infrastructure by providing expert technical expertise in Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems. Deliver technical support, lead troubleshooting and maintenance activities, and contribute to the safe and reliable operation of high-voltage equipment while supporting customers in maximizing asset performance.

Key Responsibilities

Installation & Commissioning

• Perform installation and commissioning activities for GIS equipment, including circuit breakers, disconnectors, and earthing switches.

Maintenance & Inspections

• Conduct routine inspections, diagnostic testing, and preventive maintenance on GIS systems to identify and address potential issues.
• Develop and execute maintenance procedures and schedules in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.

Troubleshooting & Repair

• Troubleshoot complex GIS malfunctions, determine root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
• Perform repair activities for GIS equipment.
• Support emergency response activities and provide timely assistance during critical equipment failures, as required.

Technical Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, testing results, and equipment performance data.
• Prepare technical reports, service documentation, and recommendations related to GIS performance and reliability.

Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

• Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to technicians and engineers on GIS operation and maintenance.
• Collaborate with engineering and project teams on GIS design reviews, upgrades, retrofits, and modifications.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements during GIS operations and maintenance activities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience working with Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems.
• Proven experience in GIS installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
• Strong knowledge of GIS components, operating principles, and common failure modes.
• Familiarity with applicable international and national electrical safety standards and regulations.
• Experience with Hitachi Energy GIS products and systems is considered a strong advantage.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical drawings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
