Role Overview
Field Engineer at McDermott, based on deployment to offshore and onshore job sites.
Role Purpose
Apply conceptual and technical knowledge to solve straightforward field and yard-related issues by analyzing solutions using company standard procedures and processes. Understand key business drivers and leverage technical experience, judgment, and precedent to support offshore installation execution.
Key Responsibilities
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all work is carried out safely in compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in project Constructability sessions, Readiness reviews, Hazard Identification studies, or Job Safety Analysis as applicable and communicate to implement recommendations.
Planning and Procedures
- Prepare offshore installation procedures per company procedures and processes, outlining methods, techniques, practices, sequences, installation aids, temporary works, and consumables required.
- Develop vessel layout and barge loadout plans for the safe and timely transportation of materials, equipment, and structures to offshore facilities.
- Prepare material lists covering construction materials and project consumables and liaise with the project coordinator for procurement.
- Issue Loadout Lists applicable to the work based on recommended practice.
- Conduct work scope presentations to offshore key personnel explaining planning and execution of work including contractual and technical aspects.
- Issue field sketches, data sheets, and checklists in the field as required for information purposes to offshore personnel.
Technical Review and Coordination
- Review and retain project drawings and documents and report discrepancies, errors, and omissions concerning information required to perform the work.
- Recommend changes in technical details and drawings where these may result in safe operations and clarity on information in installation procedures.
- Ensure the work is within the capabilities of the proposed equipment.
- Coordinate with Marine, E&M, Welding, Quality, HSES, Survey & ROV, Diving Departments, and Subcontractors per offshore scope execution requirements to ensure necessary equipment and personnel are available and ready for deployment.
- Coordinate with Production Engineers and verify loadouts of fabricated items for the project.
- Coordinate with the logistics team for inputs on materials, structures, and equipment loaded out for cargo movements from one location to another by ship, barge, truck, or other means.
Field Inspection and Monitoring
- Witness and inspect pre-rigging, loadouts, and sea fastening and acknowledge receipt of fabricated structures, line pipes, and other materials to be installed offshore.
- Develop checklists and inspect loadouts per company procedures.
- Monitor the progress of work and site conditions and advise the Operations Engineer of any developments that may result in changes to project schedule and/or execution sequence.
Stakeholder Liaison and Problem Resolution
- Liaise with customer representatives and various subcontractor representatives at the offshore site and with the Operations Engineer.
- Participate in resolution of any technical problems arising during offshore installation and assist in formulation of corrective action requirements.
Documentation
- Prepare Post Job Completion Reports per company procedures.
- Prepare and collate as-built documentation and records as required by contract requirements and approved project scope of work.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
- 3–5 years of offshore installation experience.
- Adequate knowledge of design and offshore project execution.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar tools.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with 3D software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Additional Information
- Willingness to travel to different job sites and work in various environmental conditions as required.
- Readiness to travel offshore for job execution, including willingness to be at onshore site as required.
