Field Engineer

Role Overview

Field Engineer at McDermott. The role applies conceptual knowledge of field experience with moderate guidance from colleagues and leadership to solve straightforward field and yard-related issues using the company's standard procedures and processes.

Role Purpose

The Field Engineer is responsible for solving field and yard-related issues, analyzing possible solutions, and understanding key business drivers to apply acquired knowledge through technical experience, judgment, and precedents.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all work is carried out safely in compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment policies and procedures.
• Actively participate in project Constructability sessions, Readiness reviews, Hazard Identification studies, or Job Safety Analysis as applicable and communicate recommendations for implementation.
• Develop checklists and inspect loadouts as per Company Procedures.

Technical Planning & Procedures

• Recommend changes in technical details and drawings where these may result in safe operations and clarity on information in installation procedures.
• Prepare offshore installation procedures as per Company Procedures and Processes, outlining methods, techniques, practices, sequences, installation aids, temporary works, and consumables required to perform work.
• Prepare material lists covering construction materials and project consumables and liaise with the project coordinator for procurement.
• Issue Loadout Lists applicable to the work based on recommended practice.

Vessel & Equipment Planning

• Develop vessel layout and barge loadout plans for the transportation of materials, equipment, and structures offshore to facilitate safe and timely installation.
• Ensure work is within the capabilities of the proposed equipment.
• Coordinate with the logistics team for inputs on materials, structures, and equipment loaded for cargo movements from one location to another by ship, barge, trucks, or similar.

Quality Assurance & Documentation

• Review and retain project drawings and documents; report discrepancies, errors, and omissions concerning information required to perform work.
• Witness and inspect pre-rigging, loadouts, and sea fastening; acknowledge receipt of fabricated structures, line pipes, and other materials to be installed offshore.
• Coordinate with Production Engineers and verify loadouts of fabricated items for the project.
• Prepare Post Job completion Reports as per Company Procedures.
• Prepare and collate as-built documentation and records as required by contract requirements and approved project scope of work.

Stakeholder Coordination

• Coordinate with Marine, E&M, Welding, Quality, HSES, Survey & ROV, Diving Departments, and Subcontractors as per offshore scope execution requirements to ensure necessary equipment and personnel are available and ready for deployment.
• Liaise with customer representatives and various subcontractor representatives at offshore sites and with the Operations Engineer.
• Monitor progress of work and site conditions; advise the Operations Engineer of any development that may result in changes to project, schedule, or execution sequence.
• Participate in resolution of technical problems arising during offshore installation and assist in formulation of corrective action requirements.
• Conduct work scope presentations to offshore key personnel explaining planning and execution of work, including contractual and technical aspects; issue field sketches, data sheets, and checklists as required.

Offshore Execution

• Demonstrate readiness to travel offshore for job execution, including willingness to be at onshore site as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• 3–5 years of offshore installation experience.
• Adequate knowledge of design and offshore project execution.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge in AutoCAD or similar tools.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Any 3D software experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel to different job sites and work in various environmental conditions as required.
