Role Overview
Engineer/Core Network Maintenance at Etisalat E&, based in the United Arab Emirates. This is an Emiratized role critical to ensuring smooth operation and maintenance of fixed transport network infrastructure.
Role Purpose
Maintain and support the reliability and performance of core network infrastructure through provision, maintenance, and fault rectification of assigned network elements, ensuring conformance to prescribed standards and procedures and delivering seamless service to customers.
Key Responsibilities
Network Maintenance & Fault Rectification
- Perform provision, maintenance, and fault rectification functions on assigned Core Network elements including DWDM, IP-CORE equipment, and GPON networks.
- Carry out simple and routine provision, maintenance, and fault rectification tasks on assigned Core nodes (OTN/IP CORE) and Fixed Network elements (GPON).
- Attend to assigned major and non-routine tasks independently.
- Implement fault rectification procedures for equipment while ensuring conformance to prescribed standards and procedures.
- Attend and clear faults reported by NOC teams.
- Inform major faults to superiors for review.
- Assist in locating and clearing Junction F.O Cable Network faults.
Testing & Diagnostics
- Assist in carrying out prescribed routine tests using different types of test equipment.
- Use craft terminal and test equipment to access and localize faults.
Operations & Support
- Support maintenance activities including requisitioning, receiving, acceptance testing, mobilization to work site, and handling store issue and utilization of spares, tools, and equipment.
- Work in shifts and attend assigned duties including call-out and emergencies.
- Maintain and update records in section database.
- Undertake full responsibility of equipment in assigned work area based on scope assigned.
Knowledge & Development
- Demonstrate initiative in updating knowledge and skills in respect of new equipment technology introduced to core networks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Fresh graduate with academic knowledge in telecom network operations and maintenance, including Transport, IP Switching, GPON, and Mobile networks.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of fixed transport networks, IP-Core, and Access Equipment (GPON) technologies.
- Hands-on experience with network maintenance tools and equipment, including testing and troubleshooting.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex network issues.
- Good understanding of network protocols, routing, and switching concepts.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools for network management and documentation.

- Work includes shift patterns and call-out/emergency duties.
