Role Overview

Engineer - Loss Prevention for Transmission & Water Projects at WSP Middle East, a 6-month assignment.

Role Purpose

Implement and monitor loss prevention, safety, and risk management programs across all construction, testing, and commissioning activities for 440 kV substations and associated transmission line infrastructure. Ensure compliance with client requirements, statutory regulations, international standards, and company HSE policies to prevent injuries, property damage, environmental incidents, and operational disruptions.

Key Responsibilities

Contractor Oversight & Compliance

• Follow up on works carried out by contractors and control procedures to ensure compliance with tender specifications and general contract conditions.
• Ensure installation, testing, and commissioning works are executed according to approved documents and drawings.
• Verify and approve materials in accordance with contract specifications and requirements.

Loss Prevention Systems Erection & Commissioning

• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Deluge Water Spray Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Sprinkler Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Water Mist Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Clean Agent (FM200) Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Fire Extinguisher Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Transformer Explosion Prevention Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Fire Pumps and Controllers.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Passive Fire Protection Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Smoke Extraction Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Lightning Protection Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Emergency Lighting Systems.
• Monitor implementation and oversee erection, commissioning, and testing of Security Management Systems.

Systems Integration & Interfaces

• Establish and manage necessary interfaces between Security Management Systems and loss prevention systems.
• Manage interfaces between loss prevention, HVAC, smoke, and security management systems.
• Manage interfaces between explosion prevention and loss prevention systems.
• Establish interface of loss prevention systems with substation control systems and Network Control Centre (NCC).

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Fire Protection Engineering from a reputed university.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in loss prevention engineering.
• Demonstrated experience on major Transmission and Water projects.
• Proven knowledge and background in design, inspection, erection, and commissioning of Loss Prevention systems.
• Experience in preliminary studies, tender document preparation, contract procedures, technical specifications, and bid evaluation for loss prevention projects.

Skills & Competencies

• Full proficiency in all relevant international NFPA Codes and Standards.
• Registered member of NFPA, USA.
