Role Overview
E&M Engineer – Underground Metro Experience at AtkinsRéalis. Act as Project Management Consultant (PMC) field inspector covering both electrical and mechanical systems for metro station services, supporting Site Engineers to ensure Design & Build contractor works meet approved drawings, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), codes, and Employer's Requirements across overground and underground stations.

Role Purpose
To conduct daily site surveillance and inspection of electrical and mechanical works at metro stations, verify compliance with approved specifications and standards, support commissioning activities, coordinate interfaces with civil works, ensure safety and regulatory adherence, and maintain comprehensive documentation and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Site Surveillance & Checks
- Conduct routine inspections on contractor works for HVAC, Emergency Control Systems (ECS), Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS), fire protection including hydrants and sprinklers, detection systems, water supply and drainage, lifts and escalators, Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) distribution, lighting and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), earthing and lightning protection, and Building Management Systems (BMS) and SCADA cabling and terminations.
- Record all observations and raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where applicable.
- Verify ITPs and Work Instruction Records (WIRs) compliance, material deliveries, and storage and handling practices.
- Maintain Quality Assurance checklists and test records per PMC policy.
Testing & Commissioning Support
- Witness local tests including pressure tests, duct leakage tests, and functional tests.
- Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and Installation and System Testing (IST) witnessing.
- Compile evidence for acceptance.
Interface & Coordination
- Coordinate with civil works for access and penetrations.
- Check clearances and supports.
- Report interface issues promptly to Site Engineers and log in Interface Control Directive (ICD) registers.
Safety & Compliance
- Monitor Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) on site including hot works, elevated work, and electrical safety practices.
- Ensure adherence to NFPA 130 life safety features during installation including smoke control paths and emergency ventilation readiness.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare Daily Progress Reports (DPRs) and photo logs.
- Prepare inspection reports.
- Support measurements and bill verification.
- Maintain punch lists and track closure.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5–8 years in E&M site inspection for metro, preferably in metro stations.
- Previous experience working on metro and rail projects is essential.
- Experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) checklists and design build workflows.
Skills & Competencies
- Multi-disciplinary E&M inspection capability covering both mechanical and electrical systems.
- Technical documentation and basic submittal review.
- Contractor and PMC engineer coordination.
- Reports to Station Mechanical and Electrical Site Engineers; escalates critical issues to Resident Engineer (MEP).
