Role Purpose

The Electrical Power Production Technician ensures reliable operation and maintenance of electrical power generation systems by installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing power plants and distribution equipment in deployed locations. The role requires continuous monitoring of system performance, adherence to technical standards, and proactive identification of potential failures to maximize operational efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Installation and Equipment Setup

• Install electrical power plants, distribution equipment, and automatic transfer panels.
• Position equipment such as gasoline, diesel, and turbine engines; generators; switchgear; air compressors; and other power plant auxiliary equipment.
• Study layout drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematic diagrams to analyze construction and operating characteristics.

Operations and Monitoring

• Operate electrical power plants and high voltage switches, circuit breakers, rheostats, and other controls on switchboards and distribution panels.
• Perform electrical power control and distribution functions.
• Observe and interpret instruments such as ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, synchroscopes, automatic temperature and pressure recorders, and engine oil, fuel, and coolant gauges.
• Adjust engine generator systems to maintain proper voltage, current frequency, and synchronization.
• Synchronize multi-generators.
• Record meter readings, wear and alignment measurements, fuel consumption, and other data in performance logs.
• Review performance data and maintenance records to determine adequacy of maintenance.
• Interpret data related to electrical power generating systems to prevent potential systems failure.

Inspection and Testing

• Check equipment for serviceability.
• Check installed equipment to ensure compliance with publications, policies, and directives.
• Inspect, test, and service component systems such as safety, fuel, lubrication, cooling, air pressure, pumps, regulators, governors, and accessory equipment.
• Perform inspections and interpret inspection findings to determine corrective action.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions and inspect parts for excessive wear and other conditions.
• Use precision test equipment.
• Inspect and replace gauges and meters.
• Bench check components and subassemblies.
• Test and calibrate repaired items.

Maintenance and Repair

• Maintain and repair electrical power generating equipment and automatic transfer panels.
• Modify equipment according to technical publications.
• Accomplish operating and repair tasks.
• Identify and record engine and generator malfunctions.
• Remove, repair, and replace defective power generating equipment components.
• Perform corrosion control.
• Solve maintenance problems.

Records and Reporting

• Maintain records and post entries on operation, inspection, and maintenance activity.
• Furnish information for reports and recommend changes to correct defective equipment or improve operating procedures.
• Comply with environmental policies.

Advisory and Optimization

• Advise on problems installing and repairing electrical power production equipment.
• Develop and establish maintenance and operating procedures to ensure maximum efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in operation and maintenance of engines, generators, and distribution components of electric power production equipment to include a variety of makes and models.
• Task-certified 5-Level AAS Power Pro.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of electronics and electricity, including generation, conversion, transformation, distribution, and utilization.
• Knowledge of types, capacity, and purpose of low and medium voltage circuits, circuit breakers, switches, fuses, regulators, relays, instruments, and meters associated with electric generation and distribution.
• Ability to interpret instrument and meter readings.
• Knowledge of wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings, and technical publications.
• Knowledge of techniques for operating and maintaining internal combustion engines, generators, generating plants, distribution panels, and accessory equipment.
• Knowledge of use and purpose of test equipment.
• Knowledge of safety rules and practices.
• Knowledge of environmental policies.
• Knowledge of principles of management.
• Knowledge of operation and repair of electrical power production systems.

Additional Information

• Valid U.S. Driver's License required.
• Valid U.S. Passport preferred.
• Able to obtain and maintain a valid Residency Visa for Qatar.
• Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures.
• Must be able to endure long hours, exposure to weather, and hazardous conditions.
• Must have and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
• Travel: 100% in deployed location.
