Role Purpose
Ensure the efficiency, safety, and compliance of electrical systems through design, development, testing, and maintenance of electrical equipment, while leading technical teams and coordinating projects across plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
- Design, develop, and test electrical equipment and systems, focusing on safety, efficiency, and reliability.
- Perform detailed calculations to establish standards and specifications.
- Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
- Prepare specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials.
Analysis & Compliance
- Analyse electrical systems and components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair.
- Ensure compliance with codes, corporate safety initiatives, quality standards, and federal, state, and local regulations.
Operations & Maintenance
- Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and operations requirements.
- Lead the team of technicians for daily electrical maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot medium and low voltage incomer switchgear, power control centre, motor control centre, PLC, and control systems of automation.
- Assist plant maintenance departments with troubleshooting, upgrades, and installations for process improvements, safety upgrades, and plant operations of electromechanical and automation systems.
Project & Vendor Management
- Work closely with senior engineers, project managers, maintenance teams, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of maintenance and new projects within scope, time, and budget constraints.
- Assist in the coordination of contractors and plant personnel to facilitate process and equipment improvements across multiple plant locations for automation and electrical works.
- Establish and manage vendor coordination for electrical goods supply and QA/QC approvals and qualifications.
- Ensure capex projects stay within approved guidelines and report discrepancies to the direct manager.
Technical Documentation & Communication
- Prepare detailed technical drawings, project scopes, and reports using AutoCAD and other software tools.
- Update electrical control circuit drawings.
- Facilitate clear and timely communication across all levels of the organization, including plant management, department heads, and external vendors.
Problem-Solving
- Assist with identifying and solving technical challenges in plant operations.
- Perform root cause analysis where necessary.
Leadership & Training
- Supervise or train project team members as necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or automation engineering.
- Hands-on experience with medium and low voltage electrical systems.
- Hands-on experience reading, writing, and understanding electrical schematics.
- Basic knowledge of PLC systems (Siemens S7, TIA Portal) and programming.
- SCADA development experience.
- VFD experience.
- Siemens PLC programming in S7 and TIA Portal experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Competency in AutoCAD (2016 or later) for developing electrical schematics, power distribution layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for project tracking and reporting.
- Familiarity with IT networking components, including servers, virtual machines, and data communications.
- Fluent in English.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and prioritize.
