Role Overview

Electrical Engineer - I at ACWA Power. The role supervises and manages electrical maintenance activities in the plant, ensuring equipment reliability and plant availability in accordance with maintenance plans, HSE guidelines, and quality standards.

Role Purpose

To supervise and manage all electrical maintenance activities in the plant, including preventive and corrective maintenance, planned outages, and overhauling work for all electrical equipment, ensuring plant availability and equipment reliability while adhering to HSE guidelines and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

People Management

• Supervise team member activities and work to ensure targets and objectives are achieved and business plans are delivered in line with required policies, processes, procedures, and systems.

Maintenance Management

• Monitor electrical preventive and corrective maintenance and overhauling work activities to ensure continuity and reliability of plant electrical equipment.
• Manage timely response to all emergency breakdowns and provide prompt corrective action to minimize downtime and possibility of liquidated damages.
• Develop and promote a condition-based preventive maintenance culture on a day-to-day basis by conducting troubleshooting and root cause analyses to reduce reactive maintenance.

Troubleshooting and Technical Guidance

• Troubleshoot critical problems and breakdowns of electrical equipment, investigate and diagnose faults to determine proper action and repairs while ensuring compliance with NOMAC quality and HSE standards.
• Review and analyse electrical equipment maintenance data and conduct site engineering studies to determine feasibility of modifications that increase reliability and efficiency of plant operations.
• Prepare feasibility studies for new installations, replacements, or repairs of existing electrical equipment, including technical evaluation, specifications, materials, process diagrams, and cost estimates, with proper follow-up reports and evaluation on completed modifications.

Outage Management

• Participate in forecasting of manpower and material requirements to ensure timely availability of resources and spares for effective execution of electrical maintenance plans.
• Coordinate planning and execution of annual outage maintenance of critical electrical equipment in accordance with OEM recommendations and defined best practices, providing technical support to meet EHS, scope, cost, and timeline objectives.

Documentation

• Ensure all maintenance documentation for electrical activities is completed correctly in SAP, including Maintenance Log entries outlining the fault, method of repair, and time, labour, and materials used to support timely availability of information.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment

• Ensure strict adherence to all relevant HSSE and permit-to-work system instructions, controls, and procedures to guarantee employee safety and environmental compliance.
• Work with the HSE department to ensure safety rules and regulations are fully explained to plant employees and contractor staff, appropriate safety and protective equipment is worn, safety notices are prominently displayed in all work areas, and all accidents and incidents are investigated and analysed with measures implemented to prevent recurrence.

Material Management

• Lead preparation of monthly and annual requirements for equipment, spare parts, and general materials for the electrical unit within budget constraints to support timely availability as per maintenance plans.
• Conduct technical evaluations in collaboration with the procurement department to identify and provide recommendations on the most appropriate materials and equipment for the plant.

Networking

• Develop and maintain effective business relationships with all relevant internal departments and external contractors with highest standards of business ethics, promptly attending to all critical technical issues to ensure services are delivered effectively.
• Liaise with EPC and OEM contractors for clarification, analysis, and technical guidance to ensure clarity of communications and accurate fulfilment of operational requirements.

SAP Administration

• Supervise effective administration of SAP processes within the electrical maintenance section and adhere to SAP guidelines in annual and monthly planning, scheduling, and data management including breakdowns review, corrective maintenance notification, creating maintenance work orders, and planning to ensure data and system integrity.

Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to identification and implementation of change initiatives, programs, and projects in line with organizational standards.

• Adhere to all relevant organizational and departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure work is carried out to required standards and in a consistent manner.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

Minimum Experience

• 8 to 10 years' experience in electrical maintenance in water desalination and power generation plants, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

Skills & Competencies

• Practical experience and know-how of electrical engineering.
• Knowledge of downtime analysis and practical knowledge of problem-solving tools.
• Knowledge of maintenance management methods, predictive inspection tools, and CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System); good knowledge of SAP Template desirable.
• Project Management.
• Detailed understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance theory.
• Mentoring, coaching, and people management skills.
• Knowledge of operations in water desalination and power generation plants and of NOMAC operations.
• Strong planning, organising, and integration skills.
• Experience having conducted at least one outage for critical electrical equipment.
• Teamwork and effective collaboration skills.
