Dredging Superintendent

Role Overview

Dredging Superintendent at NMDC Group. The role manages day-to-day dredging activities on project sites, overseeing execution, performance, safety, and coordination between internal teams and subcontractors.

Role Purpose

To manage and supervise all dredging operations on a project, ensuring activities are executed according to the project plan, safety standards are maintained, performance targets are met, and effective communication flows between project team members and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

• Manage day-to-day dredging activities on the project.
• Provide the Dredging Works Manager with input for the development of the detailed project plan.
• Ensure dredging activities are executed as per the project plan.
• Follow daily and weekly operational planning.
• Plan upcoming activities weekly with the Works Manager and Senior Dredge Master.
• Take control of the dredging process on a daily basis, check production levels, and determine improvements in accordance with site constraints.

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

• Provide weekly reports to the Works Manager on milestones, work completed, progress, budget, issues, and planning.
• Establish chapters of the final project report pertaining to performance, production, soil data, and other price-influencing elements.
• Deliver daily reporting items towards Project Management.
• Monitor the progress of own works and subcontractor work.

Team Management & Delegation

• Delegate specific responsibilities to dredge supervisors and Senior Dredge Master(s).
• Analyze daily reports from delegated staff, assess performance, and suggest efficiency improvement activities.
• Coordinate and plan optimal staffing for dredging-related activities.
• Actively involve yourself in Mobilization and Demobilization activities.
• Ensure cooperation between project team members and smooth data and information transfer to internal and external stakeholders where applicable.

Risk Management & Escalation

• Identify risks and appropriate mitigations; escalate if necessary to Works Management.

Subcontractor Management

• Monitor, evaluate, and control activities of subcontractors.

Safety, Health & Environment

• Ensure that risks and impacts are properly communicated to all supervisors and workers and that work is carried out safely on a daily basis.
• Make sure project activities comply with HSE regulations and requirements.
• Carry out inspections, report nonconformities, and ensure these are followed up.
• Ensure all employees understand HSE regulations.
• Ensure that accidents, near-misses, and hazardous situations are reported and corrective actions are implemented on site.
• Propose measures to prevent risks for personnel.
• Follow responsibilities towards emergency response as defined in the Emergency Response Plan.
• Ensure that the ship and all auxiliary equipment under supervision is checked, in good condition, and that defects are reported.
• Check that all hired plant equipment is safe and that periodic tests and inspection reports are available where appropriate.
• Ensure that work under control is carried out safely and without risk to health.

Coordination & Collaboration

• Cooperate constructively, efficiently, and effectively with Technical, QA/HSE, Estimation, and Operational Advisory departments.

Qualifications & Experience

• Engineering Master's or Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification.
• 5 years of experience on dredging projects in a relevant role.
• PMP certification is an asset.

Skills & Competencies

• In-depth understanding of dredging processes, use of dredging equipment, land reclamation, pipelines, cutter types, and pick points.
• Ability to transform raw data (CSV files, loggings) into readable format and interpret this format to reach relevant conclusions based on converted raw data.
• Implementation of dredging methodologies.
• Analytic capability.

• Ability to interact effectively with crew and Senior Dredge Master.
• Ability to take responsibility and suggest decisions based on known and unknown factors.
• Ability to link survey results (calculation, heights, benchmarks, charts, tolerances, etc.) to contractual implications.
