Role Overview
Dredge Master at NMDC Group. Execute dredging activities related to dredging, reclamation and civil marine projects within deadline and budget available while ensuring high quality, safety and environmental standards.
Role Purpose
To operate dredging equipment optimally and safely, manage daily production targets aligned with project requirements, lead operational dredging crew, implement health and safety standards, and serve as the operational bridge between crew, engineering, and senior management on dredging projects.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Equipment Management
- Operate the dredger and booster optimally and safely according to HSE requirements.
- Operate the dredger and booster at maximum daily production according to the operational capabilities of the equipment and project requirements.
- Inform the Sr. Dredge Master on dredger and spare parts requirements for the deck site.
Planning & Coordination
- Provide input on daily planning in agreement with the Chief Engineer to the Sr. Dredge Master.
- Coordinate and execute the yearly performance evaluation process for the operational crew.
Reporting & Performance
- Provide accurate information to Sr. Dredge Master on work done, performance, accidents, delays, asset status and work forecasts aligned with project requirements.
- Provide input on the performance and development of project staff as part of the performance evaluation process.
- Execute the performance evaluation process for all operational dredging crew in close cooperation with the Sr. Dredge Master.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Implement and control HSE requirements; respond to quality and HSE reports and ensure solutions for addressed issues are implemented.
- Identify hazards.
- Obtain information from HSE Department.
- Make recommendations to HSE Department.
- Investigate incidents.
Crew Leadership & Development
- Delegate specific responsibilities to dredge mates.
- Assess their performance and suggest efficiency improvement activities.
- Provide guidance towards operational dredging crew; escalate to Sr. Dredge Master if issues cannot be solved.
- Recommend to Sr. Dredge Master optimal development opportunities for the dredging crew.
- Cooperate constructively and efficiently with dredging crew, Chief Engineer and Sr. Dredge Master and/or dredge supervisor on a regular basis.
Risk Management
- Identify risks and appropriate mitigations.
Escalation & Leadership Continuity
- Serve as first point of contact for operational dredging crew and Chief Engineer if Sr. Dredge Master is off duty or absent.
Qualifications & Experience
- Vocational dredging degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- 5 years of experience.
- Significant experience in project performance analysis.
- Track record of management of projects.
- Industry related experience in Marine and Catering.
Skills & Competencies
- First Aid certification.
- Risk Assessment and Permit to Work (PTW).
- Navigation license (STCW 95).
- Environment techniques (asset).
