Role Overview
Dock Assistant at Ejqa, based in the Middle East (location as per company operations).
Role Purpose
To assist the Dock Master in executing safe, efficient day-to-day docking and undocking operations, including vessel movements, equipment maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Docking and Undocking Operations
- Assist Dock Master to handle day-to-day docking and undocking operations and maintain log book.
- Assist Dock Master to coordinate quay side vessel movements and shifting operations.
- Assist Dock Master to monitor and coordinate the docks and shiplift blocks arrangement.
Internal Communication
- Receive information about the schedule of vessels in the docks from Dock Master, Superintendents, Manager – QHSSE, Yard Section Foremen.
- Obtain approval for any repair works if necessary.
- Communicate with maintenance foreman to execute on time maintenance and repairs.
External Communication
- Assist Dock Master to coordinate with Port berthing assistants and Port Pilots during docking and undocking operations for safe operation.
- Obtain approval for docking and undocking from Port Authority.
- Obtain weather updates and exchange other marine notifications and information with Port Pilots and Port Authority.
Equipment Maintenance and Class Compliance
- Rigorously support the preventive and breakdown maintenance plan and ensure implementation by Milaha Ship Management.
- Ensure that all equipment onboard is well-maintained and fully operational.
- Assist Dock Master to ensure floating dock is maintained and class surveys are carried out as required.
- Assist Dock Master to put forward requisitions of spare parts and materials to repair and maintain floating dock and ship lift.
Documentation and Drawings
- Support Dock Master to maintain documentation and drawings of ship lift and floating docks.
- Ensure compliance in accordance with Milaha Ship Management guidance.
- Assist Dock Master to facilitate the custody of operation manuals.
Safety and Training
- Assist Dock Master to conduct safety briefing and toolbox talk prior to dock operations and maintain relevant documentations.
- Support Dock Master to ensure mooring and dock maintenance teams are adequately trained to meet the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency during operations.
- Follow agreed safe systems of work and follow training and instructions.
- Report accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Stop work if unsafe conditions are identified.
- Work safely at all times, protecting the health and safety of everyone in the workplace.
Compliance and Safety Management
- Ensure that all operations are carried out in a safe and environment friendly manner.
- Ensure compliance with relevant management system policies and procedures (Quality, Health & Safety, Environment, Security).
- Follow Milaha management systems, processes and procedures to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and other requirements and standards.
Equipment Installation
- Assist Dock Master during installation of machineries of both ship lift and floating docks.
General Duties
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by Management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Technical Training School Diploma, or Naval Architecture.
- 2–3 years experience in assisting with operating floating dock and ship lift.
- Middle East experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of docking and undocking operations.
- MS Office.
- Business fluent English.
