Director of Laboratory Services & Outreach

Role Overview

Director of Laboratory Services & Outreach at American Hospital Dubai, located in Dubai. This role reports to the Chief Medical Officer and works alongside the Chief of Pathology / Laboratory to develop and maintain a high-quality, cost-effective service responsive to medical staff needs and supporting appropriate growth.

Role Purpose

Oversee all laboratory operations, quality improvement, and outreach activities to deliver high-quality pathology services that meet accreditation standards, support organizational goals, and advance clinical laboratory practices through strategic planning and staff development.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management & Improvement

• Oversee development of Quality Management plan with Lab Leadership and identify improvement opportunities.
• Develop a lab-specific dashboard incorporating American Hospital Dubai's goals of service, quality, growth, cost, and people.
• Oversee Laboratory Quality Improvement activities and liaise with the Performance Improvement Department.
• Participate in hospital-wide Quality Improvement initiatives and committees.
• Implement and maintain standards for accreditation.

Laboratory Operations & Safety

• Promote a safe working environment in the Laboratory.
• Oversee Capital Expenditure requirements for the Laboratory.
• Evaluate Laboratory layout and space requirements for maximum efficiency, safety, and compliance with Joint Commission International Accreditation and College of American Pathologists standards.
• Manage and direct Laboratory cost for testing and staffing with benchmarking.
• Provide input for planning and staffing for Laboratory services in American Hospital Dubai's Clinics.

Policies, Procedures & Compliance

• Oversee development of policies and procedures pertaining to patient safety and transfusion service functions.
• Oversee development of policies and procedures consistent with organizational and accreditation guidelines.
• Promote ethical practices and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Remain professional and avoid out-of-committee or departmental discussion regarding policies, data, and information obtained within the department or as part of assigned duties.

Strategic Planning & Staff Development

• Formulate a strategic plan for laboratory outreach and marketing of services.
• Support Laboratory staff at all levels to maintain morale, proper working environment, and interaction, and delegate management responsibility to supervisory staff.
• Provide educational and developmental opportunities for staff.
• Promote and participate in departmental teamwork.

General Duties & Conduct

• Perform all duties and tasks per the hospital Code of Conduct and in line with the hospital's Vision and Mission.
• Uphold hospital values as per the C-I Care Program.
• Accept additional duties within the scope of practice in periods of higher workload and needs, as assigned by immediate superior.
• Maintain regular working hours as per the employee contract.

Qualifications & Experience

• North American Board Certification or equivalent Western Board Certification in Clinical Pathology.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Clinical Pathologist in a CAP accredited laboratory.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Director of Laboratory Services & Outreach program.
• Experience in quality improvement methodologies and implementation of laboratory practice guidelines, protocols, and pathways.
• Experience with evaluation of performance and competencies for Laboratory personnel.
• Experience in development of laboratory and administrative policies and procedures.
