Role Overview
Director, Metal Trader at First Abu Dhabi Bank. The Commodity trading desk provides commodity hedges and risk management solutions across Energy, Carbon, Base and Precious Metals, and Agriculture. This role focuses specifically on Base and Precious Metals trading.
Role Purpose
Manage and leverage customer flow in base and precious metals to deliver assigned budget and generate P&L, enhance Commodity desk capabilities, grow the Metals franchise, establish key client and counterparty relationships, and support distribution avenues to expand the flow business.
Key Responsibilities
Trading & Risk Management
- Price, execute, and risk manage client flow in base and precious metals.
- Generate P&L with detailed knowledge of base and precious metals markets.
- Manage risk position of the desk within applicable limits and desk risk tolerance.
- Monitor risks in the global commodity book.
- Implement trading strategies in Metals with demonstrated track record.
- Manage base and precious metals derivatives market making.
Client & Counterparty Relationships
- Establish and maintain relationships with key clients and counterparties.
- Maintain and enhance market counterparty and customer perception of FAB as the number one institution for local banks and corporates to handle commodity business hedging requirements.
- Anticipate customer needs and respond to requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
- Build positive relationships with existing and new clients.
Business Development & Growth
- Manage and leverage customer flow to deliver assigned budget.
- Enhance Commodity desk capabilities and support growing the Metals franchise.
- Support distribution avenues to enhance flow business.
- Develop warrants business.
- Recognize and exploit new business avenues, generating additional flow beyond remit.
- Develop new products that increase revenue and keep the bank at the forefront of market changes.
Internal Collaboration & Reporting
- Have continuous interaction with sales on trading and hedging ideas.
- Work with other international FAB centers capturing flow and pricing for new additional local customer business.
- Continually interface with desk head to ensure trading positions are reported daily and long-term requirements of FAB remain the target.
- Distribute important news to the room and network.
- Promote and encourage cooperation within the team and its stakeholders, maintaining open dialogue between desks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7 years' experience in commodity trading with specifically strong experience in Base and Precious Metals.
- Demonstrable track record of managing commodities risk.
- Proven track record in running risk in Base and Precious Metals (preferred).

- Strong knowledge of commodity markets, trading platforms, and trading systems.
