Director - Fleet Maintenance

Role Overview

Director - Fleet Maintenance at AD Ports Group, responsible for managing and ensuring that the entire Marine Technical Department operates in a customer-oriented and cost-effective manner while maintaining all assets to the highest standard.

Role Purpose

To lead the Marine Technical Department in delivering quality marine services that support Abu Dhabi's economic development, ensure regulatory compliance, maintain international standards, and drive revenue generation while optimizing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction across Abu Dhabi's ports and logistics hubs.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development

• Develop business strategy for Abu Dhabi Ports' role and participation in the marine sector.
• Negotiate concessions, service contracts, and joint venture agreements with marine service providers to implement strategy.
• Support Abu Dhabi 2030 vision by developing marine services in various ports and logistics hubs in Abu Dhabi.
• Continuously explore opportunities to develop new lines of business or modify existing lines for greater efficiency.
• Ensure future income generation is compatible with investment in marine services across various ports and projects.

Regulatory Compliance & Standards

• Ensure that laws and regulations set by the Federal Government, Abu Dhabi Government, Department of Transport, and Abu Dhabi Ports are applied in provision of marine services throughout Abu Dhabi's ports.
• Remain fully conversant with international shipping and port conventions adopted by the UAE and ensure compliance.
• Ensure marine facilities, operators, and service providers comply with international safety and security standards and monitor compliance regularly.
• Attend national and international forums to promote AD Ports and ensure Safeen functions to the highest international standards.

Performance & Service Management

• Monitor the performance of the marine sector and its service providers to identify service delivery weaknesses and causes.
• Ensure appropriate action is taken to achieve excellent service performance.
• Implement and maintain international benchmarking of key service delivery and performance indicators.
• Ensure implementation and review of Service Level Agreements drawn up with various divisions of AD Ports.
• Ensure the highest levels of customer service satisfaction by providing quality facilities and services.
• Implement initiatives to achieve continuous improvement of service standards.

Financial & Operational Performance

• Ensure high-level financial performance and revenue from Marine Services.
• Achieve maximum operational efficiency to ensure revenue inflow in line with approved budget to support AD Ports budgetary commitments.
• Ensure marine services sector provides the capacity, performance, and range of maritime, port, and logistics services required to spur economic development of Abu Dhabi.

Stakeholder Coordination & Governance

• Ensure that companies providing services to port users, government organizations, and other stakeholders cooperate and communicate effectively.
• Establish continuous improvement culture within the sector.
• Inform and coordinate with AD Ports senior management to ensure they are fully appraised of activities, achievements, and challenges facing Safeen.
• Attend Board meetings and contribute as required by the CEO and Board of Directors.

People Management

• Manage the technical departments under Marine Services Division with utmost efficiency.
• Finalize manning needs of the division and propose revisions to division's organization chart in line with increasing scope of work of Marine Services Division.

Additional Responsibilities

• Achieve economic value addition.
• Support development of ports in Abu Dhabi in compliance with the vision of the Emirate to make it a commercial hub by providing efficient marine services.
• Perform other tasks as allocated from time to time by the CEO of AD Ports.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree.
• Minimum 5 years of maritime experience in senior managerial roles.
• Marine technical expertise.
• Ports and marine industry experience in a similar senior managerial role.

Skills & Competencies

• Written and spoken English.
• Strong results orientation and commercial focus.
• Highly developed political negotiation skills.
• High-level understanding of government organization and processes.
• Detailed knowledge of commercial and operational business drivers in the maritime, ports, and logistics sector.
