Role Overview
Database Administrator at DeepSource Technologies, Dubai, UAE. Reports directly to the IT Systems Manager and plays a crucial role in the administration of systems infrastructure within a government entity.
Role Purpose
Ensure the seamless functioning of critical databases through expert administration of Microsoft and Oracle database systems, with responsibility for performance tuning, security, backup and recovery, and high availability.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Performance
- Administer Microsoft and Oracle databases to maintain optimal system performance.
- Monitor and optimize database performance proactively.
- Perform database performance tuning.
Backup, Recovery & Security
- Manage database backup and recovery procedures.
- Maintain understanding of database security protocols.
- Ensure database high availability.
System Maintenance & Upgrades
- Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades and patches.
- Apply familiarity with change management processes.
- Correlate incident information to identify root causes.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Apply strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve database issues.
- Collaborate with the team to diagnose and resolve problems.
Communication & Teamwork
- Demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills.
- Work collaboratively within the IT team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- 4+ years of experience in the Information Technology industry.
- Strong knowledge of database administration.
- Experience with database backup and recovery.
- Understanding of database security and high availability.
- Strong knowledge and experience in Oracle and SQL database administration.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft database administration.
- Proficiency in Oracle database administration.
- Good communication skills.
Additional Information
- Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (DBA) certification preferred.
- Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate certification preferred.
