CSSD Technician

Role Overview

CSSD Technician at NMC Healthcare. The role is based in the United Arab Emirates and requires a DOH/DHA Licensed CSSD Technician to work in the Central Sterile Services Department.

Role Purpose

A DOH Licensed CSSD Technician is a trained healthcare expert accountable for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and distributing reusable medical tools and surgical instruments utilized in different hospital medical departments, while adhering to the Department of Health (DOH) Abu Dhabi's infection control regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Sterilization and Processing

• Wash and decontaminate used instruments and equipment by following prescribed techniques.
• Process and maintain sterile instruments and surgical sets by adhering to adequacy of sets and correct handling techniques.
• Collect, clean, assemble and sterilize equipment, supplies and instruments for all units and departments under the direction of the CSSD In Charge.

Distribution and Documentation

• Assure distribution of all sterile supplies to appropriate areas.
• Collect and distribute items to and from the units in a timely manner and correctly document any shortage problems.

Reporting and Communication

• Report any problems to the CSSD In Charge.

Workplace Safety and Compliance

• Keep work area and equipment clean.
• Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply with those requirements.
• Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions and specific responsibilities.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Notify OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assist with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
• Comply with Waste management procedures and policies.
• Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

General Duties

• Perform other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of knowledge, skills and abilities as directed by the CSSD In-Charge.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid DOH/DHA License as CSSD Technician in UAE.
• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Medical Sterilization Management and Operation Theatre Technology.
• Minimum 3–4 years of experience from a Multispecialty Hospital Facility post qualification.
• Home country registration as CSSD Technician from a recognized regulatory authority.

Skills & Competencies

• Fluent in spoken and written English; Arabic speaking desirable but not essential.
• Demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate motivation to work in a healthcare environment.
• Demonstrate the ability to work in cordial conditions within a group practice in a hospital setting and as a member of a team.
