Role Overview

Contract Manager - Buildings at SNC-Lavalin, overseeing all contractual and commercial aspects of the Buildings Project.

Role Purpose

To manage all contractual and commercial aspects of the Buildings Project, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards, handling claims and variations, and supporting project teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Management & Administration

  • Review, understand and apply contracts and framework agreements.
  • Draft contract particulars and appendices.
  • Compile tender documents and conduct tender negotiations.
  • Analyze tender proposals and provide recommendations.
  • Negotiate contract conditions.
  • Manage contractual correspondence and draft appropriate responses.
  • Assess and evaluate independent consultants appointed by the client.
  • Review and report on compliance of independent consultants with their contractual terms and obligations.
  • Assess and evaluate AtkinsRéalis compliance with its own contractual terms and obligations.
  • Provide recommendations for and oversee improvements to contractual performance.

Commercial & Claims Management

  • Handle claims and variations.
  • Develop strong negotiation and claims experience on major projects.
  • Manage knowledge of project controls, especially change management procedures.
  • Provide financial acumen and cost-control expertise.

Process & Procedure Development

  • Review existing operations within an organisation through all project pre- and post-contract phases, including processes and procedures in both office and site environments.
  • Assess strengths and weaknesses of current operations.
  • Compile bespoke sets of processes and procedures covering quality, progress, commercial matters, contractual matters, value, safety, design and construction.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

  • Build good working relationships within complex structures across projects, with clients and internally.
  • Integrate with and fully support the PDO team and PMCs as applicable with respect to contract administration and management.
  • Deputise for PDO Commercial Director where required.
  • Report direct to the Commercial Director for PDO.

Compliance & Evaluation

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Review compliance with RIBA design stages, especially RIBA Stages 2 to 6.
  • Interpret legal documents and contractual obligations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering, construction management, law, or related field.
  • Degree-qualified (BSc/MSc) with professional recognition (MRICS/FRICS) and senior professional level status in project delivery of large projects.
  • 10+ years of experience in project delivery, preferably in similar client/consultant project roles.
  • Proven experience in contract management and commercial roles within road and infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated track record in the delivery of large multi-functional projects.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working in the USA, Canada or Western European countries.
  • A further 5 years' experience working in the Middle East is preferable.
  • Strong knowledge of FIDIC, NEC, or other standard forms of construction contracts.
  • Experience in drafting contract particulars, compiling tender documents, and tender negotiations.

  • High attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and project management software.
  • Conversant with RIBA design stages, especially RIBA Stages 2 to 6.
  • Comfortable with planning, analysis and managing process and commercial considerations.
  • Rounded profile with capability to drive successful project delivery.
