Consultant Thoracic Surgeon

Role Overview

Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Astra ProMed, Abu Dhabi. Full-time position.

Role Purpose

Provide comprehensive surgical assessment, diagnosis, and management of thoracic conditions across benign and malignant disease, perform elective and emergency thoracic surgical procedures, and lead collaborative multidisciplinary care for complex thoracic cases.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis

• Provide comprehensive surgical assessment, diagnosis, and management of thoracic conditions.
• Evaluate and manage mediastinal tumors, chest wall lesions, and thoracic trauma.

Surgical Procedures

• Perform elective and emergency thoracic surgical procedures within the scope of clinical expertise.
• Perform lung resections, including lobectomy, segmentectomy, wedge resection, and pneumonectomy where appropriately trained.
• Perform surgical management of primary and metastatic thoracic malignancies.
• Perform minimally invasive thoracic procedures, including VATS and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery, where appropriately trained.

Disease Management

• Manage benign and malignant diseases of the lung, pleura, mediastinum, and chest wall.
• Manage pleural conditions, including pneumothorax, pleural effusion, empyema, and pleural tumors.

Pre- and Post-operative Care

• Provide pre-operative assessment, surgical planning, and post-operative follow-up.
• Manage post-operative complications and provide appropriate critical care support.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

• Participate in multidisciplinary thoracic oncology and tumor board meetings.
• Collaborate with pulmonologists, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists, and intensive care teams.

Governance & Professional Development

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with patient-safety and clinical governance standards.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, teaching, research, and CME activities.

Qualifications & Experience

• MBBS/MD or equivalent medical degree.
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Thoracic Surgery or Cardiothoracic Surgery.
• Fellowship or advanced training in Thoracic Surgery preferred.
• Board certification or equivalent recognized specialist/consultant qualification.
• Minimum 5–10 years of post-specialization experience in Thoracic Surgery.
• Strong experience in thoracic oncology and complex thoracic surgical procedures.
• Experience with minimally invasive thoracic surgery highly desirable.
• Eligible for DOH Consultant classification/license in Abu Dhabi.
