Role Overview

Consultant Psychiatrist at Astra ProMed, Dubai. Full-time position.

Role Purpose

Provide comprehensive psychiatric consultations, assessments, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment for patients with mental health conditions in a leading healthcare facility. Deliver clinical excellence, compassionate care, and long-term management across a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders within a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric consultations, assessments, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with mental health conditions.
• Diagnose and manage depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and other psychiatric conditions.
• Evaluate and manage patients with personality disorders, trauma-related disorders, sleep-related psychiatric conditions, and stress-related disorders.
• Conduct detailed psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, and appropriate psychological risk assessments.

Treatment Planning & Pharmacotherapy

• Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and multidisciplinary interventions.
• Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications based on clinical assessment and treatment response.
• Demonstrate expertise in psychopharmacology and psychiatric medication management.

Crisis Intervention & Emergency Care

• Assess and manage patients presenting with suicidal ideation, self-harm risk, acute psychosis, and psychiatric emergencies.
• Provide appropriate psychiatric crisis intervention and stabilization within the authorized scope of practice.

Specialized Conditions

• Evaluate and manage substance-use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions where appropriately trained.
• Provide long-term management and follow-up for patients with chronic and complex psychiatric disorders.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

• Coordinate psychological therapies, behavioral interventions, and rehabilitation programs with multidisciplinary teams.
• Collaborate with clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, neurologists, primary care physicians, social workers, and other specialists.
• Provide psychiatric consultations for hospitalized patients and support liaison psychiatry services where required.

Patient & Family Education

• Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, medication adherence, relapse prevention, and mental health awareness.

Leadership & Professional Development

• Supervise and mentor junior physicians and other mental health professionals.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, teaching, research, and CME activities.

Governance & Documentation

• Maintain accurate and confidential clinical documentation while ensuring compliance with patient-safety, ethical, and clinical governance standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• MBBS/MD or equivalent medical degree.
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry.
• Board certification or equivalent recognized consultant qualification.
• Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Psychiatry is highly desirable.
• Minimum 5–10 years of post-specialization experience in Psychiatry.
• Strong clinical experience in diagnosing and managing a broad range of psychiatric and mental health conditions.
• Demonstrated expertise in psychopharmacology, psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, and long-term psychiatric care.
• Experience managing complex psychiatric cases and multidisciplinary mental health services.
• Eligible for DHA Consultant classification/license in Dubai, subject to applicable qualification and experience requirements.
