Role Overview

Consultant Physician Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at SEHA, responsible for leading and supervising the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care and serving as an example of clinical excellence within the specialty.

Role Purpose

To diagnose, manage and treat all patients under the post holder's care with clinical excellence, while providing leadership, training and supervision to junior medical staff and contributing to departmental quality, safety and educational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

• Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice for Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Oversee the clinical activities of junior medical staff and assume responsibility for the care they provide.
• Lead ward rounds and reassess both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice.
• Comply with all established hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up practices.
• Accurately document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
• Regularly review results of all investigations and modify treatment as required.
• Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
• Actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients.
• Ensure preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent.
• Accept clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients and patients referred from other hospitals.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and the patient's family and friends (with patient consent) in a timely manner.
• Perform other clinical responsibilities as assigned.
• Participate in and ensure the provision of out-of-hours (on-call) coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required.

Resource Management & Clinical Practice

• Practice appropriate utilization of the organization's resources.
• Maintain a good working relationship with members of staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.

Managerial & Administration

• Support, implement and follow all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
• Help lead and implement the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
• Participate in the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
• Assist with scheduling and support the Division Chief in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times.
• Attend Divisional meetings as required.
• Assist the Division Chief in the recruitment of new medical staff when appropriate.
• Assume other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Division Chief.

Quality & Safety

• Help lead quality improvement within the Department.
• Support a culture of regular audit and encourage the use of audit results for improving clinical practice.
• Support the reporting, investigation and response to untoward incidents.

Education & Professional Development

• Foster a culture of learning, development and continuous improvement across the Department.
• Promote and assist in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff.
• Facilitate the provision of essential training relevant to clinical staff in the specialty.
• Show commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME).
• Promote and participate in clinical research and publication.
• Keep abreast of current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Special Certificate

• Tier 1: Not less than 2 years relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent post board certification.
• Tier 2: Not less than 8 years full-time employment as a Consultant or equivalent post board certification (includes years in fellowship training) in internationally accredited institute.

For UAE Nationals

Clinical fellowship training following primary specialty board may substitute for experience as follows:

• Each year of clinical fellowship is counted as two years of clinical experience.
• Only applicable to clinical subspecialty fellowship in the following countries: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, United States, or HAAD accredited fellowship programs.
