Consultant Pediatric Surgeon

Role Overview

Consultant Pediatric Surgeon at Astra ProMed in Dubai. Full-time position.

Role Purpose

Deliver comprehensive surgical assessment, diagnosis, and management of pediatric patients across congenital, developmental, traumatic, and acquired conditions in newborns, infants, children, and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis

• Provide comprehensive surgical assessment, diagnosis, and management of pediatric patients.

Surgical Procedures

• Perform elective and emergency pediatric surgical procedures within the scope of clinical expertise.
• Manage congenital and developmental surgical conditions in neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.
• Perform pediatric abdominal, gastrointestinal, and urological surgical procedures as appropriate.
• Perform minimally invasive and laparoscopic pediatric procedures where appropriately trained.
• Provide surgical management of congenital anomalies and developmental disorders.

Emergency Management

• Manage pediatric surgical emergencies, including acute abdominal conditions, trauma, and intestinal obstruction.

Patient and Family Care

• Participate in neonatal and pediatric surgical care, including pre-operative and post-operative management.
• Provide appropriate pre-operative counselling and post-operative follow-up to patients and their families.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

• Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, pediatric intensivists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and other multidisciplinary specialists.

Governance and Standards

• Ensure safe surgical practices and adherence to evidence-based clinical protocols.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with patient-safety and clinical governance standards.

Professional Development and Quality

• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, teaching, research, and CME activities.

Qualifications & Experience

• MBBS/MD or equivalent medical degree.
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in General Surgery.
• Fellowship or advanced training in Pediatric Surgery.
• Board certification or equivalent recognized specialist/consultant qualification.
• Minimum 5–10 years of post-specialization experience, with significant pediatric surgical experience.
• Strong experience in pediatric and neonatal surgical procedures.
• Experience in pediatric surgical emergencies and minimally invasive surgery is highly desirable.
• Eligible for DHA Consultant classification/license in Dubai.
