Role Overview

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgery at NMC Healthcare. This role provides high-quality, professional, and ethical clinical orthopaedic services to patients, ensuring effective and efficient care delivery.

Role Purpose

To deliver comprehensive orthopaedic clinical services including pre- and post-operative care, surgical procedures, outpatient consultation, and in-patient management while maintaining clinical governance standards, managing clinical risks, and fostering continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Provide comprehensive and diligent orthopaedic care to all assigned patients, including pre- and post-operative care and orthopaedic procedures within competence.
• Perform professional duties at outpatient departments where orthopaedic care is rendered to patients.
• Provide consultation services to physicians, surgeons, and specialists on in-patient or out-patient cases when required.
• Assume after-hours responsibility for the care of admitted orthopaedic cases and make daily rounds for hospitalized patients.
• Consult with anaesthetists on the choice of anaesthesia to be used.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of all assigned cases.

Clinical Development & Standards

• Keep informed as to current developments in the field of orthopaedics.
• Determine which surgical and related services procedures are proper to undertake and when new techniques will be utilized.
• Continuously build and share knowledge to deliver expert service within scope of work, drawing on expertise of others as needed.
• Continuously evaluate quality of own work and provide feedback on progress.

Operations & Resource Management

• Determine requirements and initiate action to assure availability of special equipment and supplies.
• Utilize and monitor to assure the use of supporting services (Nursing, Operations Support, Pathology, Radiology) in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Compliance & Governance

• Adhere to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the medical department and assure that work performed is in keeping with the established standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of hospitals.
• Identify and report non-compliance to relevant stakeholders constructively.

Client Relations & Experience

• Identify and understand real needs and expectations of clients in a professional manner, and share with relevant team members.
• Respond to client complaints in a timely and effective manner and provide feedback on progress.
• Keep clients updated with relevant and accurate information and involve them in decisions that affect them.
• Focus on consistently delivering a positive client experience.

Infection Prevention & Control

• Comply with NMC Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI) Policy and Strategy to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness and reduce the risk of infection in patients, staff, and visitors.
• Implement strict hand hygiene, five moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows practice, and environmental care at all times.

Occupational Safety & Health

• Comply with reasonable occupational safety and health (OSH) instructions, policies, and safe working procedures.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
• Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues.
• Reduce, reuse, and recycle waste as much as possible.
• Attend all OSH trainings, awareness programs, and mock drills.
• Participate in OSHMS audits and inspections, ensuring standards are maintained.

Qualifications & Experience

• Qualified and licensed Medical Practitioner.
• At least 3–5 years' post-qualification experience at consultant level (independent of country).
• At least 1 year Consultant level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
• Basic medical degree and completion of higher education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Active and valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP).
