Role Overview
Consultant Gastroenterology at NMC Healthcare. The role provides high-quality, professional, and ethical clinical services to patients, ensuring effective and efficient care in the gastroenterology specialty.
Role Purpose
Deliver expert clinical gastroenterology services while maintaining compliance with clinical governance and quality management standards. Monitor and manage clinical risks, foster continuous professional development, and uphold excellence in medical practice for both oneself and the wider team.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Service Delivery
- Provide high-quality, professional, and ethical clinical services to patients.
- Deliver care that is effective and efficient.
- Supervise and monitor the delivery of health care by department staff.
- Provide guidance regarding patient care when indicated.
- Take remedial action when appropriate.
Clinical Governance & Compliance
- Monitor and manage clinical risks.
- Maintain compliance with clinical governance and quality management standards.
- Identify and report non-compliance to relevant stakeholders constructively.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and administrative matters of a confidential nature.
- Develop thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrate respect for them.
Quality Improvement & Standards
- Support Continuous Quality Improvement.
- Develop and promote appropriate standards of care.
- Works closely with other concerned committees in developing policies and procedures to promote quality health care for patients.
- Continuously evaluate quality of own work and provide feedback on progress.
Peer Review & Staff Evaluation
- Develop and implement effective Peer Review.
- Evaluate staff and provide annual and on-going feedback as appropriate.
- Supervise staff performance and provide guidance.
Administrative & Departmental Management
- Perform all administrative functions at the Department level as established by the Medical Management.
- Develop and implement work assignments, on-call assignments, and vacation schedules for Department staff.
- Produce written communications, assessments, proposals and administrative documents that are timely and of high quality.
- Ensure work product is of the quantity required to effectively accomplish duties as Head of the Department.

- Foster continuous professional development to uphold excellence in medical practice.

Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified and licensed Medical Practitioner.
- Basic medical degree and completion of higher education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
- Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by relevant UAE healthcare authority.
- At least 3–5 years' post-qualification experience at consultant level, independent of country of origin.
- At least 1 year consultant-level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
Skills & Competencies
- Active and valid life support certification (BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, or NRP).
- Expert knowledge within gastroenterology scope of work.
