CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

Role Overview

Construction Manager at NMDC Group. This role manages on-site construction operations, supervising self-performed and contracted work to deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and to quality and safety standards.

Role Purpose

Execute field construction activities in full conformance with project drawings, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, procedures, quality requirements and safety standards. Manage all aspects of site operations including labor, contractors, equipment, materials, and client relations while maintaining a strong safety culture and meeting NMDC's business priorities and customer demands.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Culture

• Play an active role in the development of the safety culture on the project, making safety a natural part of all work performed.
• Remain knowledgeable of safety policies and procedures and perform assigned duties in a safe manner.
• Supervise others with responsibility for their safety and ensure that they comply with established safety policies and procedures and practice safe work habits.

On-Site Management & Supervision

• Perform on-site management, supervision and coordination of all self-performed and contracted work.
• Manage and administer, train, and motivate all personnel in construction operations.
• Ensure effective construction equipment use and maintenance program.
• Ensure an effective plan for the supply and control of tools and supplies.
• Plan and manage the project's temporary facilities.

Schedule & Cost Control

• Control project schedule and cost through the efficient use of all construction resources and contractors.
• Oversee the development of project schedules in cooperation with the construction engineers and contractors.
• Ensure that daily and weekly short-range planning is maintained down to the foreman level.
• Determine manpower levels to attain schedule milestones and monitor manpower levels and craft mixes to ensure conformance with the construction plan.
• Monitor productivity and cost and implement appropriate action to maintain maximum labor productivity and cost-effectiveness.

Quality & Constructability

• Maintain quality of all work in accordance with the standards as specified in the design documents.
• Review design scope and approach with regard to constructability and submit recommendations for change.

Scope & Change Management

• Control change and scope creep, ensuring that all scope changes are quickly and properly documented and that change orders are approved prior to the performance of work.

Contractor Management

• Manage the contractual commitments of contractors, including cost, quality, and schedule and coordinate their field activities.

Labor & Client Relations

• Assist the Site Industrial Relations in the overall administration of labor relations policies.
• Manage and maintain all client relations at the site.

Project Execution

• Execute activities related to reclamation and civil marine projects within deadline and budget available.
• Ensure high quality, safety and environmental standards.
• Focus on NMDC's business priorities while meeting customer demands.
• At times perform duties above and beyond the scope of this role due to operational requirements.
