Role Overview
Compliance Officer (Emiratisation) at Mashreq.
Role Purpose
Monitor financial transactions and customer accounts for indicators of money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions breaches. Review and investigate suspicious activity alerts in compliance with Anti-Money Laundering procedures and regulatory timelines. Report findings to central bank and internal management to mitigate financial crime risk.
Key Responsibilities
Alerts & Investigation
- Review and analyze alerts triggered in SAS as per the AML SOP within stipulated TATs.
- Monitor SAS AML System and conduct appropriate reviews to facilitate closure of alerts or further investigation and reporting.
- Prepare Suspicious Activity Reports and submit to central bank in timely manner.
- Conduct AML enquiries and investigations upon directives received from the Compliance Manager on an ongoing basis.
- Investigate complex cases involving potential money laundering, terrorist financing, or sanctions breaches.
Quality Analysis & Support
- Assist the AML Investigation Team by providing complete quality analysis for reviewed cases at the analysis stage.
- Conduct enhanced due diligence (EDD) on high-risk customers and transactions.
- Monitor customer transactions for patterns indicative of financial crime using various AML tools and systems.
Policy & Risk Governance
- Assist in development, review, and updating of AML policies, procedures, and SOPs to align with regulatory changes.
- Highlight any key Financial Crimes risk throughout review and analysis of customers' accounts to the Line Manager and/or Head of Transactions Monitoring/delegate.
- Highlight any Compliance Policy breaches, Financial Crimes concerns or suspicions to Line Manager.
Process Management
- Handle referrals received from business units as per the bank's policy, ensuring no breach of applicable process guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
- UAE National (mandatory).
- Graduate degree.
- 3–4 years of AML Transactions Monitoring experience.
- CAMS Certified or other recognized certification (preferred).
- Sound knowledge of banking practice, laws, and Mashreq bank's policies, procedures, systems and controls.
- Good knowledge and understanding of local AML/CFT rules and legislation and international best practices and requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of the bank's AML/KYC policies and procedures.
- Organizational awareness including working knowledge of risks, products, processes and controls.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency with SAS AML System.
- Market knowledge of IT tools and software used for AML monitoring systems.
- Computer literate with strong knowledge of MS Excel and Business Object (BO) reports.
- Analytical thinking and educative judgment on AML and CTF regulations and their bank-wide implementation.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English.
- Team player with strong communication and inter-personal skills.
- Customer-centric focus.
- Attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to adhere to timelines and work effectively under pressure.
