Commissioning Engineer (Telecom)

Role Overview

Commissioning Engineer (Telecom) at McDermott. This role applies conceptual knowledge of commissioning engineering to solve straightforward commissioning problems with moderate guidance from colleagues and leadership.

Role Purpose

Analyze commissioning challenges using standard procedures and technical experience, build knowledge of company processes and customers, and apply understanding of critical business drivers to solve problems in straightforward situations.

Key Responsibilities

Home Office Deliverables

• Report to the Commissioning Manager and provide support to the Principal Commissioning Engineer in the preparation of home office deliverables.
• Operate and maintain Manuals development.
• Develop Commissioning and Start-up Spares.
• Develop First Fills and Consumables.
• Develop Commissioning and Start-Up Procedures.

Site Commissioning Activities

• Participate in walk-down inspections, punch listing, and testing including troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and instrument component issues.
• Supervise craft personnel required for site pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
• Perform Discipline Equipment system checks and tests.
• Conduct Function testing of mechanical, electrical, and instrument systems.
• Participate in Commissioning, Start-Up, and Performance Testing.
• Resolve operational and maintenance issues during Commissioning, Start-Up, and Performance Tests.

Stakeholder Management

• Work collaboration within the Project team and with the Client to maintain positive relationships.
• Coordinate activities with other engineers in the commissioning team.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a chemical, refinery, or oil and gas process facility.
• 3–8 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant.
• Preferred: 2+ years of previous commissioning and start-up experience in the chemical, refinery, or oil and gas industry.
• Good understanding of concepts, principles, and practices in commissioning, completions, and training.
• Basic knowledge of other functions such as construction and operations and maintenance.

Skills & Competencies

• Ability to assess and communicate project requirements and expectations in a clearly defined, positive, and productive manner.
• Effective communication of technical solutions and concepts to other engineers and non-engineers.
• Good computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Good organizational skills and adaptability to the needs of various discipline groups.
• Proficiency in English; multi-language skills a plus.

Additional Information

• Willing and able to travel to construction sites on assignments to international sites.
• Reports to Project Commissioning Manager and functionally to Function Commissioning Manager.
• Liaises with Commissioning Manager, Discipline Lead Engineers, Project Engineers, and Construction/Fabrication team.
• Supervises support personnel within the function group.
